Bands Selection #6 - Thy Lankasters

Nous sommes allés en Russie pour cette nouvelle Bands selection. Thy Lankasters, que nous suivons de près a partagé avec nous dix morceaux assez intéressants. Entre synth pop et dubstep. Des années 80 à maintenant. Vous pouvez retrouver certains de ces sons dans leur musique.

Par ailleurs, ils ont fait un bon remix de l'une des dernière chanson de Tesla Boy, on l'a rajouté à la fin de cette sélection.

We went to Russia for this new Bands selection. Thy Lankasters, that we closely follow has shared with us ten exciting tracks. Between synth pop and dubstep. From the 80's to the 10's. You may find some of these sounds in their music.

By the way, they made a very nice remix of one of Tesla Boy latest tune. Check it at the end of this selection.

- James Blake - CMYK 
Mr James Blake is one of my all-time favorite producers. It keeps amazing me how slick does he mix dubstep beats with deep R&B-style vocals. Sweet piano progressions + well placed samples from Kellis “Caught out there” - you will be pleased for sure. 



- Mount Sims - Restless 
Dead drums, synths like Kraftwerk`s "Trans-Europe-Express", mystique vocals and goosebumps. 



- Neon Indian - Polish Girl 
In love with this juicy, summer tune, when I first time heard it in one of the Reading`s hotel (during Reading festival) on E4 advertisement.



- Burial - Homeless 
I can listen to Burial’s beatlines over and over again for days - its just that hypnotizing. Its just amazing how he can make a song out of a single beat and you just cant get enough of it. Freaking groovy stuff!



- Celebrate The Nun – Will You Be There
Hans Peter Geerdes and Hendrik Stedler played Depeche Mode style music before they become Scooter band, D`you know that?



- Solid Gold - Who You Gonna Run To
The plane flying across the cloudy horses and elephants in the sky. Nice audio for alone beach laying.



- Parachute Youth – Count to Ten
Australian synth pop duo count to ten and then you have to dance.



- Jamie xx - Girl
Such a romantic piece of music - a perfect soundtrack to sitting with a hot girly by the ocean watching the sun come up.

- Boat Club – Memories

Fresh air and breezy hair.

- Tiger Love – Summer Rain

Talkboy tape recorder and VHS. 2 words which can describe the epoch of 90s.

The Northern Lights - Dreamers (Part 1)

Pour un dimanche tout en douceur, on vous propose aujourd'hui les nappes de synthé rêveuse des américains de The Northern lights. Entre nostalgie année 80 et dream'pop à fleur de peaux, les californiens passent aussi bien pour nos après midis sous la couette que pour une observer les nuages allongés dans l'herbe.

Les thèmes repris et le style ne sont pas sans rappeler les français Kavinsky ou M83 sont ils ont d'ailleurs sortis un remix.

For a sweet sunday you can listen to the creamy synth-waves of The Northern Lights. Between 80's nostalgic sounds and emotional dreampop, The Californian have what you need wether you want to stay in bed all the day or to lay down on the grass watching the clouds.

Their music and universe that you can discover on their soundlcoud, reminds us French artists like Kavinsky or M83.

Nouveau Cliché - Vanity

On reçoit parfois de très bonnes suggestions. Je crois que j'ai déjà regardé 50 fois ce clip. Ambiance années 80, compilation de vieilles vidéos bien kitsch, qui vous donnent envie de taper des mains et de bouger votre fessier.

Et la musique est également plutôt cool. La bande son parfaite pour votre humeur dansante. Synthétiseurs chaleureux, bien vintage et une ligne de basse bien catchy. Vanity, ce bijou synthpop est extrait du dernier EP du producteur canadien Nouveau Cliché.

Sometimes we receive very good suggestions. I guess that I have already watched 50 times this video clip. 80’s vibe, compilation of old kitsch videos that make you want to clap your hands and shake your ass.

And the music is also Great. The perfect soundtrack for your dancing mood. Vintage and warms synthesizers with a catchy bass line. Vanity is extracted from the latest EP of the synth pop Canadian producer Nouveau Cliché.

Il y dix jours, le groupe russe Thy Lankasters a mis en ligne son nouvel EP, Wasted Youth. Un son chaud et désinvolte. On avait déjà eu une sorte de preview avec Summer of Love’88.

Comment décrire leur musique ? On va tenter des comparaisons et dire qu'ils ont un peu de l'élégance de Metronomy, de l'excentricité de Midnight Juggernauts, de la fougue de Late of the Pier et peut être de la touche synthwave de Cut Copy... 30 minutes de "Indietronica/Synth-Pop".

Ten days ago, the Russian band Thy Lankasters has put online there new EP, Wasted Youth. A warm and jaunty music. We already had a kind of preview with Summer of Love’88.

How to describe their sound? Let’s try to do some comparisons, and say that they have a bit of the Midnight Juggernauts’ eccentricity, of the Metronomy’s class, of the Late of the Pier’s ardour and maybe of the Cut Copy’s synthwave touch… 30 minutes of "Indietronica/Synth-Pop".

FM Attack - Deja Vu

Pour les amoureux de synth pop 80’s, on vous recommande fortement d'écouter le dernier LP de FM Attack. Le producteur canadien a sorti son deuxième album, Deja vu, il ya quelques semaines, et a reçu pas mal de bonnes critiques. Sans surprise, il ya de très fortes influences vintages (claviers, rythmes et mélodies), mais aussi une touche de modernité. Avec la voix de Kristine, Magic est notre titre préféré. On tombe sous le charme des la première écoute !

Et si vous n'écoutez généralement pas ce genre de new wave rétro, voici une bonne accroche pour devenir fan.

For 80’s synth pop lovers, we highly recommend you to listen to FM Attack latest LP. The Canadian producer released his second album, Deja vu, some weeks ago, and received many nice critics. With no surprise, there are very strong vintage influences (keyboards, beats and melodies) but also a touch of modernity. With Kristine’s voice, Magic is our favorite track.

And if you usually don’t listen to this kind of retro new wave, just try it and you will adopt it.

A Revoir Simone - Somebody Who

En 2009, les trois filles de Au Revoir Simone décidaient de faire une pause après la sortie de Still Light, Still Night. Le groupe de Brooklyn est de retour avec un premier extrait de leur prochain opus prévue pour la rentrée. Somebody Who montre qu’elles savent toujours manier avec délicatesse leurs claviers et produire une pop fraiche et raffinée… Les fans vont être content !

In 2009, the three girls of Au Revoir Simone had a break after the release of Still Light, Still Night. The Brooklyn band is back with a first extract of the upcoming opus scheduled for next September. The track Somebody Who shows that they still know how to manipulate with delicateness their keyboards to produce a fresh and elegant synth pop… Fans will be happy !

SelloRekT / LA Dreams - Dreamers

A la fois producteur, programmeur, photographe, vidéaste, designer graphique et donc musicien, SelloRekT / La Dreams est surtout un amoureux de la scène électro des années 80. Ce passionné de synthétiseurs vient de sortir Dreamers, sa dernière piste fraîchement mis en boîte.

Dès la première écoute, on comprend qu’on ne nous a pas menti sur la marchandise. Des synthés à tous les étages, orchestrés par une boîte à rythmes au poil. Les afficionados de ce son rétro futuriste devraient aussi trouver leur bonheur avec Machine Wired, son premier album !

Both producer, programmer, photographer, videographer, graphic designer and musician therefore, SelloRekT / LA Dreams is especially a lover of the 80’s electronic scene. This passionate about synthesizers just put online Dreamers, his last track freshly canned.

Upon first listen, you realize he did not lie about the goods. Synths at every levels, orchestrated by a perfect drum machine. Aficionados of this retro futuristic sound should also find their happiness with Machine Wired, his debut album !

Nightcrawler - Road Blaster EP

Gorges Gold, de son vrai nom, est à la base le co-fondateur du Medusateam conception studio. Ce directeur artistique et graphiste fait un bon dans le temps à la nuit tombée et se métamorphose en Nightcrawler. Armé de ses synthés, l’espagnol produit une musique inspirée de la scène electro des années 80, avec une certaine touche de folie.

Son dernier EP fraichement sorti, on prend le temps de se fondre dans son univers. Les beats sont puissants, tout en laissant assez de place aux synthés pour s’exprimer. Il laisse ensuite libre cours à différents DJs pour leur interprétation personnelle de Road Blaster.

On a particulièrement apprécié les remixes de Miami Night1984 et de 80s Stallone qui transposent cette piste dans une autre galaxie !

Gold Gorges, whose real name, is basically the co-founder of the Medusateam conception studio. This art director and graphic designer jump into time at night and turns into Nightcrawler. Armed with his synths, Spanish produce music inspired by the electro scene of the 80s, with some touch of madness.

His latest EP fresh out, we take time to blend into its universe. Beats are strong, while leaving enough room to synths to express themselves. Then, he allowed free rein to different DJs for their personal interpretation of Road Blaster.

We especially liked the remix of Miami Night 1984 and 80s Stallone, who transpose this track in another galaxy !

 We had spotted David Alexander aka Summer Heart for some time and looking forward to the release of his new EP to tell you about. The Swedish used to offer us cosmic trips, a kind of invitation to a journey among the stars, where your head is filled with unrealistic dreams.

On vous a déjà parlé de Kamp! Le groupe nous revient ces jours ci avec un single issu de son premier album sobrement appelé Kamp!, sorti il y a peu chez Brennnessel Records. Le trio polonais nous livre une jolie piste de synthé pop, avec toujours cette impression de montée en puissance. Les inspirations de la scène eurodance des années 90 et krautrock des années 70 s’entrechoquent pour le plus grand plaisir de nos oreilles !

La sortie officielle du single est programmée pour le 25 février et comprendra, comme son prédécesseur Cairo, des remix concoctés cette fois par Midnight Magic, Xinobi et Zimmer.

En bonus, le clip réalisé par Tomek Goldbaum-Wlazinski, qui vous évitera d’avoir le regard dans le vide en écoutant Melt !

You've already talked about Kamp! The band is back these days with a single from his debut album simply called Kamp!, recently released on Brennnessel Records. The Polish trio gives us a nice synth pop track with this feeling of always rise. The inspiration of the 90s eurodance scene and 70s krautrock collide to the delight of our ears!

The official release of the single is scheduled for February 25 and will include, as its predecessor Cairo, remixes concocted this time by Midnight Magic, Xinobi, and Zimmer.

As a bonus, the video directed by Tomek Goldbaum-Wlazinski, which will prevent you to have the staring into space while listening to Melt!

Rain Sword - Heart Of Light

Dans la lignée de Mitch Murder ou encore Miami Nights 1984, on est fier de vous présenter Rain Sword. Vous l’aurez compris, direction la DeLorean !  Ah, 1984, année d’insouciance, de légèreté et de rêves…

Miles Roger (pour les intimes) remplit l’espace sonore de sons analogiques très typés 80’s donc, mais avec une certaine émotion. Et c’est là le point fort de l’américain ! Vous vous laisserez rapidement happer par cette vague déferlant dans vos oreilles, à grand renfort de beats disco et de nappes de synthé qui vous laisseront rêveur. Sans s'en rendre compte, le pied bat le tempo, la tête se balance instinctivement de gauche à droite, on en redemande!

In line with Mitch Murder or Miami Nights 1984, we are proud of presenting you Rain Sword. As you will have understand, get in the DeLorean! 1984 what a carefree, lighting and dreamy  year...

Miles Roger (for short) fills the sonic space with very typical 80's analog sounds, but with some emotion. And that is the main strength of the american! You quickly get trapped by these synth waves, disco beats and synth pads that leave you dreaming. Without noticing, the foot swing tempo, head swinging nonchalantly from left to right. We want more!

Im Takt - EP 2 (Part Three)

Après avoir sorti la première partie de leur second EP sur laquelle nous avions blogué au début de l'été, une deuxième partie à la rentrée, Im Takt nous tient en haleine et sort sa dernière partie dans une semaine. Ok le nom de l'album n'est pas particulièrement sexy mais la musique est plaisante (dans ce sens c'est cool!). Le groupe s'essaye aux cordes vocals et on trouve que ça sonne un peu comme du Morrissey.

On retrouve dans leur titre Dark Passenger l'énergie qui a fait la renommée du groupe sur internet. Le titre est habilement remixé par Grifon de We Are Enfants Terribles. Bref de la bonne synthpop française comme on l'aime.

We blogged at the beginning of summer about Im Takt's first part of their second EP. They've released the Second part in September. Here is their last track that will officially be out in November. Well, the name of the record doesn't sound particularly sexy but their music is fresh and punchy (better than the opposite!). There are now vocals on their music and it sounds a little bit like Morrisey.

Their song, Dark passenger is full of good electronic energy and the remix from Grifon (We Are Enfants Terribles) is not bad! In a word it is just another French synthpop band that is worth listening!

Explorers - Souvenirs E.P

On découvre aujourd’hui Explorers, un duo électro pop originaire de Sheffield, de l’autre coté de la Manche. L’été dernier, est sorti leur premier EP, Souvenirs. 

La mélancolie qui émerge de leur son explique peut être ce titre. Un peu rêveuses, leurs sept chansons sont parfois légèrement expérimentales mais reste très pop, notamment grâce à la voix sensible et agréable du chanteur. Les voix nostalgiques et les claviers crémeux se mélangent et les chansons sont très homogènes au final. Même si on ne peut pas dire que c’est un problème, il est vrai qu’il n’y pas de vrai tube mais « seulement » sept morceaux plutôt agréable!

Today we discover Explorers, an electro pop duo from Sheffield, UK. During last summer, they released their first EP called Souvenirs. 

This name can explain the melancholia that emerges from their sound. Slightly dreamy, their seven tracks are sometimes a bit experimental but remain pop with a sensible and catchy voice. Nostalgic backgrounds vocals and creamy synths are mixed together and songs are very homogenous. Even if we cannot say that it’s a problem, it is true that there is not a big hit, but “just” nice tracks!

TOYS - Natural Plastic

Ils s'appellent TOYS, ils sont parisiens et ils ont sortis la semaine dernière un EP au nom plutôt sympa: Natural Plastic. Pas mal de gens ont l'air de miser sur eux pour dépoussiérer l'electro-pop du moment.

C'est qu'il faut dire que, même si les indispensables synthés analogiques fusent, ils apportent un son un peu sombre, mélancolique et posé qui contraste. En ajoutant le clip sympa et soigné de Noise on obtient un truc qui s'écoute avec plaisir et qui va sûrement bien marcher.

The name of the band is TOYS, there from Paris and their last EP's name is quite cool: Natural Plastic. A lot of peoples believe they may revisite current Electro-pop. 

Even if they use essential analogical synths, their music is melancholic, intimate and soft and it makes it different. Add to that their nice and well-made clip and you've got something that is really worth listening and that will certainly work.

Château Marmont - Wargames

Doucement mais surement, Château Marmont est passé de la case de groupe hype underground à la situation de groupe émergeant de la scène pop française, et qui s’annonce comme une des révélations de l’année prochaine avec la sortie de leur premier LP, The Maze. 

Tout ça pour dire que leur dernier titre, Wargames est disponible depuis aujourd’hui et qu’il est accompagné d’un jolie petit clip réalisé pendant leur tournée américaine. L’arpeggiator est sur On et la recette de leur synth-pop n’a pas changé.

Slow but sure, Château Marmont has moved from the hype underground band to an emerging band of the French pop scene. Some people say that it might be one of the revelations of the next year thanks to their first LP, The Maze. 

Therefore, the last track of the Parisian band is available since today. Wargames is a nice synth-pop track. The band did not change the recipe, the arpeggiator is ON. They also shot a pleasant video clip for it during their American tour. Check it!

The Do - Bohemian Dance (YUS Remix)

Aujourd'hui on vous fait partager un remix du groupe Franco-finlandais, The Do, Bohemian Dance, par YUS (aka Youceff Kabal). On a particulièrement aimé sa vision aérienne, dream-pop du titre et le clip qui colle particulièrement.

YUS, basé à Phoenix ne donne pas que dans le remix, il compose et chante (fort bien!) et a sorti fin 2010 un LP au son Lo-Fi, Palms, qui vaut le détour. on vous poste ici quelques tracks et on vous invite à faire un tour sur son bandcamp!

Today a new remix of the French-Finnish band The Do by YUS (aka Youceff Kabal). We particularly enjoyed his aerial and dream-pop vision of Bohemian Dance and the nice video that matches pretty well.

YUS is a Phoenix-based artist that is not only remixing other's people songs. He also composes and sings and released Palms, a Lo-Fi LP at the end of 2010 that is worth listening! Here are some tracks, the others are on his bandcamp!

Foreign Friends - Measurements EP

Derrière le nom Foreign Friends, Brian et Matt produisent une synthpop influencée par Depeche Mode ou Soft Cell. Ils viennent de Seattle et ont sorti au début du mois un premier EP : Measurements. 

Dans ces cinq morceaux résolument pop, les mélodies sont simples, dociles et légèrement sombre. Losing Game reste la meilleure piste par son ambiance hypnotisante et la voix de Jess Rees. Les autres sont peut être un peu trop répétitive. Votre avis?

Under the name of Foreign Friends, Brian and Matt are producing a synthpop music inspired by Depeche Mode or other obscure 80’s band. They are from Seattle and they released their first EP this month: Measurements. 

In these five pop songs, melodies are simple, tame but quite efficient and slightly dark. Losing Game remains the best track thanks to its hypnotic ambience and the voice of Jess Rees. The others one are maybe too repetitive.

Coupons - Spring is Treating us Well

Difficile de ne pas garder le riff en tête après avoir écouté Spring is Treating us Well des australiens de Coupons. Ils ont clairement choisi l'efficacité avec leurs synthés retros qui fendent l'air, le coté modulaire et aérien de leurs lignes neo-discos. Dans le même ordre d'idée on vous conseil aussi de tendre l'oreille à leur reprise de Sara des Jefferson Starship en collaboration avec Show you Shoe. Pour se mettre en condition pour l'été, ça passe plutôt pas mal!

After listening to Spring is Treating us Well from the Australian band Coupons, it will be hard for you to forget this melody. Actually their retro synths, aerial and modular disco lines are incredibly efficient. In the same way you may also have a look to their Sara's rework (Jefferson Starship) from a collaboration with Show your Shoe. Perfect to get ready for summer!
