Several months ago, we suggested to watch Turbo Kid, "a Quebec post-apocalyptic movie with epic fight scenes, kitsch effects and a wonderful soundtrack".

Le Matos just put the full soundtrack online and it's an avalanche of retro futuristic sounds. A sweet album for a time travel.

Les fans de rétrofuturisme ont certainement noté la sortie de Turbo Kid, un film post-apocalyptique québécois avec des scènes de combat épiques, des effets kitsch et une bande son magnifique. Le Matos est à l'origine de la musique qui correspond parfaitement à l'atmosphère du film. Vous devriez vraiment regarder la bande-annonce ci-dessus.

Décidément ça bouge du côté de Montréal! Cette fois, c'est un son électro brut de décoffrage que nous propose Beat Market. Pas de chichi, juste l'essentiel et c'est efficace! Le duo Montréalais nous fait saliver avant la sortie peut-être d'un nouvel EP, encore une fois sur Lisbon Lux Records!

Le Couleur - Concerto Rock

Je ne sais pas quel temps il fait à Montreal, mais ici à Paris on a bien besoin de soleil! Le Couleur continue à propager ses ondes positives à travers l'Atlantique pour nous livrer Concerto Rock. Une piste un peu moins pop kitsch que les précédentes, avec un refrain plus agressif chanté par la douce voix de Laurence, un brin innocente, et toujours en Français! Les synthés sont bien présents, la signature du trio en quelque sorte...

I do not know about the weather in Montreal, but here in Paris we needed sunshine! Le Couleur continues to spread his positive vibes across the Atlantic to deliver Concerto Rock. A track slightly less kitsch-pop than previous, with a more aggressive tune sung by Laurence's sweet voice, a bit innocent and still in French! Synths are present, trio's signing somehow...

Automelodi - Surlendemains Acides

La scène francophone Cold Wave se porte décidément pas mal du tout! On s'était déjà enthousiasmé il y a un moment au sujet Yan Wagner et autres Lescop, c'est une autre petite pépite sombre qu'on a découvert hier à Paris, première date de la tournée européenne d'Automelodi qui présente son deuxième LP, Surlendemains Acides. 

Bien sûr, le canadien Xavier Paradis nous gratifie des bonnes vieilles recettes de l'âge d'or de la synth pop des années 80 (vieux sons synthé, reverb...) mais ne tombe pas pour autant dans le simple mimétisme et y apporte sa griffe pour aboutir à un style qu'il qualifie de "folk impossible". 

Leur prestation live vaut largement le coup!

The French-speaking Cold Wave scene is more than active these days! We've discovered last year Yann Wagner and Lescop, here is another dark nugget we've seen last night in Paris for the first concert of their European tour. Automelodi played their last LP, Surlendemains Acides which is great!

Of course it sounds like Synth Pop from the eighties (old synths, reverb...) but it is not a simple imitation: Xavier Paradis brings his own identity to his music, creating what he calls "impossible folk". 

If you get a chance to see them live, go! There great.

On profite du dernier remix de Avenue, pour parler de ce très jeune producteur canadien (19 ans) qui sort régulièrement de très bon remix. La petite touche Nu-disco qu'on aime sur des morceaux qui ont déjà pas mal de succès.

On reçoit parfois de très bonnes suggestions. Je crois que j'ai déjà regardé 50 fois ce clip. Ambiance années 80, compilation de vieilles vidéos bien kitsch, qui vous donnent envie de taper des mains et de bouger votre fessier.

Et la musique est également plutôt cool. La bande son parfaite pour votre humeur dansante. Synthétiseurs chaleureux, bien vintage et une ligne de basse bien catchy. Vanity, ce bijou synthpop est extrait du dernier EP du producteur canadien Nouveau Cliché.

Sometimes we receive very good suggestions. I guess that I have already watched 50 times this video clip. 80’s vibe, compilation of old kitsch videos that make you want to clap your hands and shake your ass.

Après quatre ans, Tokyo Police Club est de retour avec leur troisième album intitulé Forcefield. Ce nouvel opus sera disponile le 24 Mars, mais avant, vous pouvez déjà écouter Hot Tonight.

Cela sonne plus pop que ce qu'ils ont fait avant, mais cela reste très agréable. Ils ont peut-être été influencés par leur collaboration avec le RAC. Moins rock mais plus dansant !

After Four years, Tokyo Police Club is back with their third album titled Forcefield. This new opus will be available on March 24 but before, you can already listen to Hot Tonight.

It sounds more pop than what they did before, but it remains very nice. They were maybe influenced by their collaboration with RAC. Less rock but more danceable !

Bahamas - Caught Me Thinking

Derrière Bahamas, il y a juste un canadien. Afie Jurvanen mène seul et avec une grande maîtrise ce projet à la fois pop et poétique. Les guitares ont le beau rôle, et les influences folk sont assez remarquables. Caught Me Thinking !

Behind Bahamas, there is just one man from Ontario, Canada. Afie Jurvanen is doing this poetical pop project alone but with a great control. Guitars have the best role, and folk influences are stronger than lo-fi influences.

Seoul - Stay With Us

Seoul est un trio canadien de Montréal. Ça fait bizarre, oui. Stay With Us, est la seule piste qu'ils ont sortie. Elle est ambient et rêveuse, comme une douce caresse, comme une légère brise dans vos cheveux. Cela pourrait être une bonne musique pour le prochain film de Sophia Coppola .

Seoul is a Canadian trio from Montreal. It sounds weird, yes. Stay With Us is the only track they made. It’s ambient and dreamy, like a gentle caress, like a light breeze in your hair. It could be a nice music for Sofia Coppola next film.

Arcade Fire - We Exist (Night Drive Edit)

Pour nous le dernier opus d'Arcade Fire est un des albums de l'année. On vous pressentait Reflektor il y a déjà deux mois et c'est toujours et encore un plaisir de l'écouter pour nous.

Par curiosité, on a donc écouté cet édit de We Exist. Night Drive n'a pas changé beaucoup d'éléments mais ils ont apporté leur touche électro rétro. Plus 80's, plus hypnotique, plus dansant... On aime.

For us, the Arcade Fire latest opus is one of the best albums of the year. We have presented Reflektor 2 months ago, and we still enjoy to listen to it.

So, we were curious to listen to this edit of We Exist. Night Drive hasn’t change many elements, but they have brought their nice retro electro touch. More 80's, more hypnotic, more danceable... We like.

We Were Lovers - Pyramids

Avec des mélodies joyeuses et colorés, et une voix chaleureuse le duo canadien jouent une musique électro pop plutôt cool et bien influencé par les années 80. On attend patiemment leur album, Pyramids (c'est pour la semaine prochaine) !

Par moments, on se demande comment on a pu passer à côté de certains artistes. C'est le cas avec Le Couleur et leur Voyage Love EP. Ces quatre Canadiens distillent un pop acidulée et entrainante à la fois. Une invitation au voyage teintée d'électro avec une ligne de basse entêtante qu'on apprécie particulièrement. Si vous cherchiez une musique pour vous réchauffer à l'approche de l'hiver, c'est ici que vous la trouverez !

Sometimes, we wonder how we can miss some artists. This is the case with Le Couleur and their Voyage Love EP. These four Canadians produce a tart and catchy pop both. An invitation to travel tinged by electro with a haunting bass line which we particularly appreciate. If you're looking for music to warmed you as winter approaches, this is where you will find it!
 

Arcade Fire - Reflektor

Et le voila ! Il est enfin arrivé! Reflektor, le quatrième album de Arcade Fire est disponible depuis deux jours, après trois ans de silence.

Vous devez déjà avoir entendu l'énorme (à la fois incroyable et long) premier single des canadiens et vu son intrigant clip et vous devriez déjà avoir remarqué le virage musical qu'ils ont effectué. Avec cet album, leur son devient plus dancefloor, moins pop mais reste mystérieux. La raison de ce nouveau visage, c’est certainement la production signée James Murphy, mais aussi leurs voyages à Haïti et en Jamaïque, ou peut-être la naissance du fils de Butler et Chassagne…

Quoi qu'il en soit, comme d'habitude, vous aurez besoin de plus d'une écoute, pour contrôler et pour profiter de la puissance de cet album. Mais il en vaut la peine.

He finally arrived! Reflektor, Arcade Fire fourth album was released twi days ago after three years of silence.

You must already have heard of the huge (I mean great and long) first single with an intriguing video clip and you may already have noticed the musical turn they made. With this album, their sound become more dancefloor, less pop but remains mysterious. The raison of this new face is due to the production signed James Murphy, but also their trips to Haiti and Jamaica, or maybe the birth of the son of Butler and Chassagne.

Anyway, as usual, you will need more than one listening, to control and to enjoy the power of this album. But it worth it.

FM Attack - Deja Vu

Pour les amoureux de synth pop 80’s, on vous recommande fortement d'écouter le dernier LP de FM Attack. Le producteur canadien a sorti son deuxième album, Deja vu, il ya quelques semaines, et a reçu pas mal de bonnes critiques. Sans surprise, il ya de très fortes influences vintages (claviers, rythmes et mélodies), mais aussi une touche de modernité. Avec la voix de Kristine, Magic est notre titre préféré. On tombe sous le charme des la première écoute !

Et si vous n'écoutez généralement pas ce genre de new wave rétro, voici une bonne accroche pour devenir fan.

For 80’s synth pop lovers, we highly recommend you to listen to FM Attack latest LP. The Canadian producer released his second album, Deja vu, some weeks ago, and received many nice critics. With no surprise, there are very strong vintage influences (keyboards, beats and melodies) but also a touch of modernity. With Kristine’s voice, Magic is our favorite track.

And if you usually don’t listen to this kind of retro new wave, just try it and you will adopt it.

Natural Animal - Who You Are

En attendant l’album, le dernier single « Over Your Shoulder » est désormais disponible et bien à l’image de ce duo formé à Montréal : efficace, agréable, frais.

Fidèles à ces sonorités électro-funk et disco -parfois ponctuées de vocodeur- qui ont fait leur succès (Night by Night, When the night falls, Fancy footwork), ce single semble bien prometteur pour leur 4ème album studio en presque 10 ans d’activité !

« An album that sounds more dancefloor ». That’s how P-Thugg, one of the two Chromeo guys lately described their new album.

Waiting for the album being released, the single “Over Your Shoulder” is now online and sounds in line with the music this duo formed in Montreal are used to producing: efficient, listenable, cool.

Keeping those electro-funk and disco sounds -sometimes mingled with vocoder- that have been Chromeo’s trademark over the last 10 years (Night by Night, When the night falls, Fancy footwork), this new single sounds a really good start for this 4th album !
