Bands Selection #8 - Super Besse

Après une longue pause, notre rubrique "Bands Selection" est de retour. Pour celle-ci, nous avons demandé à notre groupe biélorusse favori de nous envoyer quelques pistes.

Depuis que nous suivons Super Besse, nous n'avons jamais été déçus par leur coldwave punchy. Pavel, Maksim et Sasha ont déjà sorti deux EPs, mais on attend patiemment leur premier album qui devrait bientôt débarquer! Ils partagent avec nous plusieurs sons rock et punk made in Russia, mais aussi quelques chansons plus électroniques. Une playlist éclectique.

After a long break, our "Bands Selection" rubric is back. For this one, we asked to our favorite Belarusian band to send some tracks.

Since we follow Super Besse, we have never been disappointed by their punchy coldwave. Pavel, Maksim and Sasha already released two EPs, but we are patiently waiting for their first album that must be come soon ! They shared with us some rock and punk sounds from Russia, but also some more electronic songs. An eclectic playlist.

Motorama - Heavy Wave

Le nouvel album de Motorama est prévue pour la fin de Janvier, mais peu à peu ils sèment de nouvelles pistes sur SoundCloud via leur label, Talitres. Le dernier en date c'est Heavy Wave, une pure merveille indie pop. Les Russes ne devraient pas nous décevoir avec ce nouvel opus. Notez qu'ils sont en tournée en Europe très bientôt!

Motorama's new album is planned for the end of January, but little by little they sow new tracks on soundcloud via they label, Talitres.  The latest one is Heavy Wave, a pure indie pop marvel. The Russians might not disappoint us with this new opus.

Motorama - She is There

C'est via le site russe volna.afisha.ru que Motorama a annoncé la sortie de leur nouveau single et de la vidéo qui l’accompagne. Comme on est bilingue, on a pu vous traduire l’essentiel.

She is There reste assez fidèle à leurs chansons précédentes, même si cela semble un peu plus mélancolique. Le clavier prend également un rôle plus important mais le son Motorama est là.

La vidéo est une sorte d'hommage à Michael Haneke. En tant que fan du cinéaste, Vladislav Parshin a suggéré de faire un clip qui rappelle son film, Le Septième Continent. Si vous n'êtes pas familier avec ce film, cela pourrait vous sembler assez étrange. Vous pouvez également noter que le batteur n’est pas présent, il a quitté le groupe pour des raisons familiales.

Le nouvel album devrait être pour cet été.

It is via the Russian website volna.afisha.ru that Motorama has announced the release of their new single and video. As we are bilingual, we translated you the most important things.

She is There is faithful to their previous songs even if it sounds a little bit more melancholic. The keyboard takes also a bigger part.

The video is a kind of tribute to Michael Haneke. As a fan of the moviemaker, Vladislav Parshin has suggested to make a clip that reminds his film, The Seventh Continent. If you are not familiar with this movie, it may look strange for you. You may also notice that the drummer has left the band for family reasons.

The new album should be for this summer.

Motorama - Eyes

Motorama c'est ce groupe aux sonorités new-wave / post-punk dont on vous a déjà parlé ici. Le groupe revient aujourd'hui avec Eyes, single extrait de leur futur album prévu pour novembre. Les Russes sont fidèles à leur style: une mélodie accrocheuse à la guitare, avec cette voix timide mais remplie de chaleur, un peu comme si Ian Curtis avait enfin ouvert les rideaux de son salon.

Cette piste est moins brutale que les premières compositions du groupe, mais on sent qu'ils gagnent en maturité pour nous livrer quelque chose qui vient du plus profond de leur coeur... On adore !

Motorama is the new wave / post punk band which has already been mentioned here. The band is back with Eyes, single from their upcoming album scheduled for November. Russians are faithful to their style: a catchy guitar melody, with this shy voice but full of warmth, as if Ian Curtis had finally opened the curtain of his room.

This track is less brutal than the first compositions of the band, but we feel they are maturing to deliver us something that comes from deep within their hearts ... We love!

 

Берген Кремер - Замок

On connait bien Motorama, la face occidentale du groupe russe originaire de Rostov sur le Don que l’on vous a présenté à de nombreuses reprises ici. Il y a aussi Утро, moins connu, autre version du quintette, plus punk, plus sombre et plus slave, avec un chant en russe.

On a découvert depuis peu que Vladislav Parshin, le chanteur s’était aussi lancée dans un side project avec Airin Marchenko, la bassiste (qui est aussi sa femme). Une musique à la fois ténébreuse et mélodique qu’il faut prendre le temps d’écouter. Avec Берген Кремер (Bergen Kremer), adieu les guitares, bonjour les synthés cold wave et ce son un peu sale des 80’s.

Pour la petite histoire le nom de ce projet vient de Joseph Kremer, commandant du camp de concentration Bergen-Belsen…

The Russian band Motorama has two faces. The occidental one that we presented several times on the blog and Утро. Less famous, this other version of the quintet is more punk, darker, and more slave with vocals in Russian.

We recently discovered that Vladislav Parshin, the singer had also started a side project with Airin Marchenko, the bassist (who is also his wife). Gloomy but melodic, you will need more time to appreciate this music. With Берген Кремер (Bergen Kremer), guitars let the place to cold wave synths with dirty 80’s sound. Only three tracks, but we understand the idea.

For the anecdote, the project name comes from Joseph Kremer, commander of the concentration camp Bergen-Belsen...

Motorama - Paris - 22/11/2012

C’était fin novembre, la température approchait timidement les 5°. Le rendez-vous était pris au bord du canal saint martin, devant le Point Ephémère. Des personnes cherchent à acheter des places au marché noir, on entre directement dans la salle déjà bien remplie.

Le groupe AV est là pour assurer la première partie, on se dirige rapidement vers le bar pour faire l’appoint.

Profitant de l’interlude, on se faufile dans la foule compacte pour être aux premières loges.

L’air de rien, Vladislav, Maxim, Irene, Alexander et Roman montent sur scène et s’accordent tranquillement, en esquissant la mélodie de Sometimes. La machine Motorama se met alors rapidement en route et enchaîne les titres, notamment ceux de Calendar, leur dernier album en date. Un petit frisson nous parcours le corps sur les premières notes de Empty Beds. On se sent aspiré dans un vortex sans fin et on se laisse aller, bercer par la voix du chanteur, et les mélodies jouées à la guitare. C’est comme si un rayon de soleil avait réussi à pénétrer dans l’obscure salon de Ian Curtis.

Le set s’intensifie au fur et à mesure. Vladislav, se délestant de sa guitare, se démène dans tous les sens, assurant le show tandis qu’Irene place soigneusement sa ligne de basse. On sent la fin approcher. Petite piqûre de rappel, puis le rideau tombe. Le public salue comme il se doit la prestation du groupe et ils le méritent !

Chez vocododo, on vous recommande d’aller les voir sur scène, vous ne le regretterez pas !

Seemingly effortless, Vladislav, Maxim, Irene Alexander and Roman go on stage and tune themdelves their instruments, sketching the melody of Sometimes. The Motorama machine then starts and chaining songs, including Calendar, their latest album. A small shiver run our body on the first notes of Empty Beds. We feel drawn into an endless vortex and we let go, lulled by the singer's voice and the melodies on the guitar. It is as if a sunbeam had managed to enter into the dark room of Ian Curtis.

The set intensifies progressively. Vladislav, shedding his guitar, struggles in all directions, ensuring the show while Irene carefully places his bass line. We feel the end approaching. Small booster shot, and then the curtain falls. The public greet as they should the delivery of the band and they deserve it!

Brandenburg - Part Two Ep

En Russie, dans le genre revival new wave, on connait le groupe Motorama de Rostov, voici leurs cousins de la capitale, Brandenburg.

L’esprit est un peu près le même, des guitares mélodieuses, une basse ronflante et des voix sombres. Du post punk plutôt sympathique au final. Le deuxième EP du quintet moscovite est disponible depuis quelques semaines gratuitement ici. Le clip de School Bus est encore tout chaud !

If you like new wave / indie rock music, in Russia, you have Motorama from Rostov, but you also have their cousins from Moscow, Brandenburg.

The spirit is almost the same: melodious guitars, a snoring bass and dark voices. As you can see with School Bus, their post punk is quite nice. The second EP of the Moscow based quintet is available for free here!

Motorama - To The South

Parmi les groupes que l’on suit attentivement et que l’on apprécie beaucoup, il y a Motorama. 

Leur son est pure et entrainant, c’est à la fois délicat et léger par les guitares, et rapide et dense grâce au couple batterie bass. On n'ose pas parler de la voix de Vladislav Parshkin (oui le groupe est russe). Leur dernière chanson, To The South est aussi bien que d'habitude.

Among the groups that we follow carefully and that we love, there is Motorama.

Their sound is pure and heady, it is both delicate and light by the guitars, and fast and deep thanks to the bass and drums couple. We do not forget the nice voice of Vladislav Parshkin (yes the band is from Russia).  Their new song, To The South is as good as usual!

Human Tetris - Happy Way In the Maze of Rebirth

Human Tetris, avec Motorama entre autres, sont un peu les chefs de file du renouveau rock en Russie. Les deux groupes sont d’ailleurs assez proches dans l’esprit. Apres deux EP, ils viennent de sortir au début du mois un premier album, Happy Way In the Maze of Rebirth. 

Basés à Moscou, les quatre garçons ont fait un peu évolués leur son. Cet opus est plus rock indie que post punk. Néanmoins, même si la bass est moins présente, on apprécie toujours autant ces petits arpèges de guitare et la sombre et incroyable voix d’Arvid Kriger. 

Un conseil : Ils passent en Europe en ce moment. Jetez un coup d’œil ici pour voir s’ils viennent dans votre ville. Leurs concerts sont top ! 

Un mauvais point : La pochette est loin d’être un chef d’œuvre. (Pour les EPs, c’était beaucoup mieux)

Human Tetris is one of these bands that take part to the new wave of Russian rock. Not far from Motorama in the spirit. After two EPs, they released at the beginning of the month their first album, Happy Way In the Maze of Rebirth. 

Based in Moscow, the four guys have changed a little bit their sound. This opus is more indie rock than post punk. Nevertheless, even if the bass is less present, we still enjoy the nice and tight guitar and the dark and amazing voice of Arvid Kriger. 

One advice: They are touring in Western Europe now. So, check here if they are coming in you city. Their gigs are great! 

One bad point: the album cover is not really beautiful. (For the EPs it was much better).

Motorama - Empty Bed

Un groupe comme cela mérite d'être connu. Airin, Vladislav, Maksim, Alexander et Roman sont Motorama, ils vivent dans le sud de la Russie, et nous aimons leur musique. Aujourd'hui, ils sortent une nouvelle chanson, Empty Bed, et comme ils l'ont toujours fait pour tous leurs EPs et leur album, c'est en téléchargement gratuit. 

Ecoutez Motorama, c’est comme découvrir un bon vieux groupe de new wave / post punk des années 80. La sombre voix de Vladislav Parshin rappelle Ian Curtis et les arpèges joués par la guitare dansent autour d’une profonde et très présente basse. On n’oublie pas le synthé, qui amène un aspect aérien et rêveur à leur son. D’habitude, après une chanson, on se retrouve à faire semblant de jouer de la batterie seul dans sa chambre. 

Empty Bed, la nouvelle piste possède un côté plus mélancolique mais reste très dynamique. Téléchargez dès que possible leurs chansons sur leur site web, vous ne serez pas déçu. 

Et au fait, leurs concerts sont supers !

A band like this deserves to be known. Airin, Vladislav, Maksim, Alexander and Roman are Motorama, they are living in the south of Russia, and we like their indie rock music. Listen to Motorama, is like discovering an old new wave / post punk band from the 80s. The dark voice of Vladislav Parshin reminds Ian Curtis and the arpeggios played by the guitar swing around a deep and very present bass.
