The Holydrug Couple - Moonlust

Depuis ce matin, j'écoute en boucle le dernier LP de The Holydrug Couple. Je viens de découvrir la groupe avec Moonlust et j' ai été surpris de voir qu'ils ont commencé leur aventure en 2008. Le duo joue un psych-rock onirique où les vagues mélodiques s'entrechoque dans un chaos délicieux et organisé. Hypnotique voyage sans fin, principalement instrumental. Un album très homogène où toutes les pistes sont des potentiels single. (on aime bien aussi la pochette illisible)

Pour leurs principales influences, ils citent Serge Gainsbourg, les bandes sons synthpop des films français et sud américains des années 80 et Air. Ce son exotique vient du Chili, mais les gars traversent la mer pour une poignée de spectacles sur le vieux continent cet été (Le 22 à Paris et le 23 à Bordeaux).

Since this morning, I am playing again and again the latest LP of The Holydrug Couple. I just discovered the band with Moonlust and was surprised to see that they started their adventure in 2008. The duo plays a dreamy psych-rock where melodic waves crash in a delicious and organized chaos. Hypnotic endless trip, mostly instrumental. A very homogeneous album where all the tracks are potential single.

For their main influences, without any doubt, they cite Serge Gainsbourg, French and South American 80's synthpop movie soundtracks and Air. This exotic sound comes from Chile, but guys are crossing the sea for a couple of shows in Europe this summer.

Oracles - Melt Tonight

On découvre Oracles avec leur dernier morceau Melt Tonight et son clip vintage. L'insolente pop psyché des berlinois est soutenu par une vidéo qui invite à la rêverie. Un coté mystérieux et ensorcelant pour une chanson impertinente qui a vraiment séduit.

Holy Wave - Relax

Coup de cœur pour le dernier album de Holy Wave. En écoutant le dernier opus des américains, je suis parti planer très haut au-dessus des nuages. Cette voix lointaine qui semble être comme un souffle divin, ce petit piano psychédélique, ces guitares west coast, ce petit tambourin 60's, un pure bonheur. Un vrai tourbillon acide et rock & roll. Le nom de ce merveilleux album : Relax.

Cela m'a donné envie de réécouter Rain Parade, au moins aussi bon et c’était il y a 30 ans.

Big crush for the latest album of Holy Wave. I listened to the last opus of the Americans and I went hovering high above the clouds. The faraway voice that seems to be like a divine breath, this little psychedelic piano, The west coast guitars, this small 60's tambourine, a pure happiness. An acid and rock & roll whirlwind. The name of this wonderful album: Relax.

And then I have listened again to Rain Parade, at least as good and it was 30 years.

Res - She's A Witch

Nous sommes tombés sous de cette chanson dès la première écoute. RES est un tout nouveau groupe qui vient du Royaume-Uni et She's A Witch est leur premier morceau, et c'est un parfait premier essai. Ils jouent une musique indie pop avec des influences psychédéliques et le travail sur la voix est tout à fait remarquable.

We fell in love with this track after the first listen. RES is a brand new band that comes from the UK and She's A Witch is their first song, and it's perfect first try. They play an indie pop music with some psychedelic influences and the work on the voice is quite noteworthy.

La Femme revient avec Packshot !

 

Apres plusieurs titres assez psychédéliques voire loufoques, qui nous emmenaient dans des aventures souvent sombres et mystérieuses, le groupe a mis en ligne aujourd’hui un nouveau clip encore une fois assez excentrique.

 

C’est toujours aussi agréablement lugubre et ça va à 100 à l'heure. Côté musique, on revient a des sonorités plus surf rock avec une ligne de basse qui swing presque autant que sur leur tube La Planche. Packshot est sur leur premier album, Psycho Tropical Berlin.

 

A la fois visuellement et musicalement, le groupe s’est créé un univers unique et décoiffant.

La Femme is back with Packshot!

 

After several rather psychedelic and zany songs, that often took us in dark and mysterious adventurous, the band has launched today a new video, again quite eccentric.

 

It is still pleasantly gloomy and it goes very fast. About music, we return to more surf rock sounds with a bass line that swing almost as much as on their hit, La Planche. Packshot is on their first album, Psycho Tropical Berlin.

 

Both visually and musically, the French band has created a unique and mind-blowing world.

 

The Pharmacy - Stoned and Alone

Stoned and Alone, le troisième album de The Pharmacy sent le whisky, la poussière et la sueur. Le whisky de ses cowboys musiciens, la poussière des nombreuses routes qu’ils arpentent lors de leurs tournées, et la sueur de leurs concerts plus qu’animés ! 

Le son du trio est garage et psychédélique, un rock rocailleux que quelques claviers 60’s accompagnent. Néanmoins, l’album comporte de nombreuses ballades catchy comme la délicate chanson Your Eyes. Cela peut faire pense aux français de All Cannibals.

Stoned and Alone, the third album of The Pharmacy smells whisky, dust and sweat. The whisky of these musician cowboys, the dust of many roads on which they walked during tours, and the sweat of their intense shows. 

The sound of the American trio is garage and psychedelic, a strong rock with some nice 60’s keyboards. Nevertheless, the album includes some catchy ballade (Your eyes for exemple).

Girls Names - A Troubled See

A Troubled See, la dernière chanson du trio de Belfast Girls Names est incroyablement tendre. Leur légère indie pop avec ses influences psychés devrait vous séduire. Ce 45 tours qu’ils partagent avec leurs camarades de Weird Dreams sortira le 25 juin prochain via Slumberland Records et Tough Love Records. L'album c'est pour plus tard dans l'année...

A Troubled See, the last song from the Belfast based trio Girls Names is incredibly tender. This tasty indie pop track should be available on a 7" split with their mates from Weird Dreams the 25th of June via Tough Love Records and Slumberland Records. You will enjoy it!

Un peu de légèreté avec Evil Eyes, un duo originaire de San Francisco. Greg Mabry et Joe Frabotta sortent ce moi-ci un petit vinyle bien sympa. Deux pistes dream pop rafraîchissante: Over My Shoulder et Playing With Matches. C'est plutôt difficile de dire quel morceau on préfère!

A little of airiness with Evil Eyes, a 2-piece band from San Francisco. Greg Mabry & Joe Frabotta release this month a nice and refreshing 7” vinyl with two dream pop tracks: Over My Shoulder and Playing With Matches. Hard to say which song is the best one.

Cinq drôles d’énergumènes jouant une étrange musique, voici Synthcake. C’est assez difficile de mettre dans une case ce groupe originaire de Vancouver. Musicopholia est le nom de leur premier EP sorti cette été. 

Dans un style cabaret loufoque, Synthcake propose un musique à la fois pop et psychédélique. On trouve un nombre assez impressionnant de sons, et de textures dans ces six chansons. On aime cette voix jazzy et ce synthé décalé! En téléchargement gratuit !

Five fanatics playing a strange music, this is Synthcake! It’s quite hard to put this band from Vancouver in a box. Musicopholia is the name of their first EP, released this summer. 

Synthcake manages to combine pop music and psychedelics influences, It’s outrageously fanciful. There is an incredible number of sounds, rhythms and textures in these six songs. We like this jazzy voice and this burlesque keyboard! Free Download !

Girls Names - Black Saturday

Plus tôt dans l’année, vous aviez peut être entendu parler de Girls Names, et de leur premier album, Dead To Me. Originaire de Belfast, le trio revient avec une chanson intitulée Black Saturday. 

Cathal, Neil et Calire forment donc ce petit groupe en janvier 2009 et créaient des airs pop pour leurs chansons. Dans cette chanson, le tambourin donne un aspect un peu psychédélique à leur son vintage. Black Saturday, sans briller par son originalité est un bon morceau de quiétude et sa simplicité est relaxante. La voix du chanteur est sombre, et on aime leur sens de la mélodie comme certains groupes pop du milieu des années 80 avaient. 

Et si vous ne vous souvenez pas à quoi ressemblait le dernier opus de Girls Names, jetez un coup d’œil ce lugubre clip tourné pour Bury Me.

Earlier this year, you may have discovered Girls Names, with their first album, Dead To Me. The Belfast based trio is back with a new song called Black Saturday. 

Cathal, Neil and Claire are making poppy tunes since the creation of the band in January 2009. In this song, the tambourine is giving a psychedelic aspect to this vintage pop music. Black Saturday without shining for its originality is nice piece of quietude and its simplicity is relaxing. The voice of the singer is dark and we like their sense of melody as some nice bands were having in the middle of the eighties.

Sin Kitty - Wonder When EP

Sin Kitty définit sa musique comme Surf Psychédélic. A vrai dire, on retrouve plus le côté psyché et shoegaze! On ne connait pas grand chose des américains à part qu'ils sont originaires d'Asheville. Mais il faut dire que parfois c'est vraiment pas mal de se laisser transporter par le son d'un petit groupe du fin fond de Caroline du Nord. 

La musique de Sin Kitty est lente, répétitive et aérienne, la voie de la chanteuse est naïve et terriblement captivante. L'ambiance rêveuse de l'EP n'est pas sans ressemblance avec la musique de Clues. Même s'ils ne vont peut-être pas marquer l'histoire de la musique tout de suite, Certaines chansons de Sin Kitty sont parfaites pour se laisser porter tranquillement.

Sin Kitty defines its music as Psychedelic Surf. Actually it sounds more psychedelic and shoegaze than like surf music! We don't have a lot of information about the young American except the fact that they are from Asheville. But sometimes it is really cool to get surprised by an unknown band from North Carolina.

Sin Kitty's music is slow, repeating and aerial, the singer's voice is naive and terribly appealing. the dreamy ambiance from the EP sounds a little bit like the Clues. Even if they may not revolutionize the music history for the moment, some of their songs are perfect to escape.
