Discotexas nous propose depuis quelques jours une
nouvelle pépite nu disco. Jesse Oliver, Finlandais d’origine, signe deux
premiers titres sur le label Portugais Oceans et Nicodemus. Deux pistes tintées
de sons disco infusés à la scène électro plus contemporaine. Une production
solide avec une pointe d’émotion, le cocktail détonant qui vous fera chavirer
dans une vague de synthé rétro !
Pour rallonger le plaisir des oreilles, Mirror People
livre un remix de la piste éponyme, une interprétation bien différente de l’original
mais qui vaut le détour !

Discotexas
offers us for a few days a nu disco nugget. Jesse Oliver, original Finnish,
sign first two titles on the Portuguese label, Oceans and Nicodemus. Two tracks
tinted by disco sounds, infused in the more contemporary electro scene. A solid

Dans la série des groupes qu’on adore au moins pour leur nom (et ici pour la musique aussi), il y a LCMDF. LCMDF, ou plutôt Le Corps Mince de Françoise, c’est deux finlandaises (d’où le nom oui !) qui produisent une musique électro souvent décalée ou provocatrice, parfois coquine, mais toujours déjantée.
Au lieu de sortir leur premier album ce mois-ci, elles ont préféré sortir successivement trois EP. Mental Health, disponible depuis lundi, est le premier de cette « trilogie ». Farouchement jeune et rebelle, leur musique est loin d’être linéaire. Pour notre plus grand bonheur cela part dans tous les sens, mais rassurez-vous cela reste assez cohérent.

In the series of groups we love for their name (and here for the music too), there is LCMDF. LCMDF, or rather Le Corps Mince de Françoise is two Finnish girls (hence the name yes!) that produce electronic music, often derisive and provocative, sometimes naughty, but always perfect for dancefloor.
Instead of releasing their first LP, they decided to release successively three EP. Mental Health, out 29th October, is the first part of this planned “EP trilogy”. Definitely young and rebel, their music is not linear, but going in all directions.

Le groupe finlandais French Films dévoilait, il y a quelques jours un nouveau single pour les fans, When People Like You Filled The Heavens. Vous le savez, leur dernier album, Imaginary Future nous avait particulièrement séduit (c’était ici). La guitare est toujours aussi joueuse et la basse toujours aussi dansante. Bref, ils n’ont rien changé et c’est tant mieux !
En attendant un prochain album, il font la tournée des festivals cet été.
The Finnish band French Films unveiled a few days ago a new single, When People Like You Filled The Heavens. You know it; we really enjoyed their first album Imaginary Future (it was here) and their catchy guitars and dancing basses. Indeed, they did not change the recipe and that’s good!

Cela commence avec des bass rugueuses et des beats sévères mais des claviers plus lumineux viennent ensuite pour former un cocktail assez agréable. Avec Drive et You Are, on découvre ce qu’Hector 87 peut faire sans son camarade Timo Juuti.

Stockers!, c’est un quatuor de rock indie originaire de Finlande. Somestimes est le premier single extrait de leur futur premier album et Anton, Eetu, Heikki and Tuomas ont de l’énergie à revendre !
Leur son est un mélange de guitares lumineuses, de lignes de bass intransigeantes et de lourdes rythmiques. Il y a aussi l'agressivvité et l'urgence du punk. En attendant la sortie du premier opus, vous pouvez aussi écouter une de leur ancienne chanson : Vanish.
They are a four-piece indie rock band hailing from Helsinki, Finland. Sometimes is the first single of their upcoming album. Their main quality is definitely their energy.
Their sound is a vibrant mix of bright guitar melodies backed by intransigent strict drum and bass lines. They keep also the agressivity of punk melodies. Pending the released of their first opus, you can also have a look on one of their old track: Vanish.
On a rencontré French Films avant leur concert à la Flèche d'Or, voici de quoi on a bavardé:
V: Pourquoi ce nom, French Films?
FF: J’aurais souhaité qu’il y ait une plus grande histoire derrière ça, mais moi et Johnny nous avons eu une conversation un jour au sujet du cinéma français et on s’est dit pourquoi notre groupe ne s’appellerait pas French Films? C'est un peu ironique, je suppose. Parfois, les gens pensent que nous sommes français.
V: C’est quoi vos principales influences ?
FF: Dans nos précédents groupes, nous jouions différents types de musique, mais c’était encore de la musique pop. Nous voulions juste essayer de faire des choses vraiment simples, de la musique pop.
V: Aviez-vous imaginé que deux ans après votre première répétition, vous seriez ici?
FF: Pas du tout! Nous faisions juste des chansons pour le plaisir. On trouvait que ce que l’on faisait était pas mal, mais nous n'aurions jamais imaginé cela. Tout a commencé à arriver très vite et nous n’osions même pas espérer ce scénario.
V: Comme Casiokids en Norvège, avez vous songé à chanter dans votre propre langue, en finnois?
FF: Pour nous, il était évident que nous allions chanter en anglais. C’est international, et bien sûr la langue pour le rock and roll. Je n'aime pas beaucoup ce que ça rend en finlandais . J'aime bien les artistes de rap finlandais, mais ce n'est probablement pas pour nous.
V: Vous avez sorti votre premier album l'été dernier, pour quand est le prochain? Est-ce que vous essayez de garder le même style?
FF: Je ne pense pas que nous allons nous stresser pour celui-ci. Nous avons écrit beaucoup de nouvelles chansons et quand nous aurons du temps on retournera en studio. Nous ne savons pas ce qui va se passer encore, alors peut-être un prochain album pour le début de l'année prochaine.
V: Vous avez tourné dans le monde entier, quel est votre meilleur souvenir?
FF: Le Japon, c’était vraiment cool, parce que nous n'aurions jamais eu les moyens d'y aller par nous-mêmes. C'est en Macédoine qu'on a fait notre premier concert en dehors de Finlande et c'était vraiment bizarre, mais super cool. Jouer à l’Embassa't festival l’été dernier, près de Barcelone était une super expérience, parce que nous avons fait beaucoup de concerts dans des clubs avant, mais pour ce festival, il y avait 2000 personnes dehors, on a eu beaucoup de plaisir!
V: Que pouvez-vous dire au sujet de la musique française ?
FF: On connait un peu la musique électro, Daft Punk, Justice, Phoenix. Je ne connais pas grand chose, mais tous ceux que je connais sont vraiment bons.
V: Vocododo?
FF: On dirait un nom français pour une sorte d’oiseau, non ?

V: Why this name, French Films?
FF: I wish there was a bigger story behind, me and Johnny we had a conversation about some French movie and what if our band it would be French Film. It’s a bit ironic I guess. Sometimes people think we are French.
V: What’ are your main influences?
FF: In our previous bands we were playing different kind of music but it was still pop music. We just wanted to try really simple pop music.
V: Did you imagine that two year after your first repetition you would be here?
FF: Not at all! We just made songs for fun. We were thinking that what we were doing was good, but we would never have imagined this. Everything started to happen so fast and we were even not hopping this scenario.
V: As Casiokids in Norway, did you think you about singing in Finnish?
FF: It was so obvious that we would sing in English. It is international, and for sure the language for rock and roll. I don’t really like how Finnish sounds that much. I love some Finnish rap artists but it’s probably not for us.
V: You released your first album last summer, what about your next one? Will you try to keep the same style?
FF: I don’t think we are going to take any stress of it. We have a been writing a lot of new songs and we will have time we will go back to the studio. We don’t know what’s going to happen yet, so maybe a next album for the beginning of next year.
V: You toured all over the world, what is your best souvenir?
FF: Japan was really cool, because we would never afford to go there by ourselves. Macedonia was the first show outside Finland and it was really weird but so cool. Playing at Embassa’t festival last summer near Barcelona was beautiful because we did a lot of club show before but for this festival, there were 2000 people, and it was a lot of fun!
V: What can you say about French music?
FF: We know some electro music, Daft Punk, Justice, phoenix. I don’t know so much but all I know are really good.
V: Vocododo?
FF: It sounds like a French name for some kind of bird… no?

Pas besoin d’être de Californie pour faire du surf rock. Le groupe French Films l’a très bien compris et nous le montre avec son premier album, Imaginary Future disponible depuis aujourd’hui.
Comme le nom l’indique, Antti, Joni, Santtu, Mikael & Johannes sont finlandais, mais cela ne change rien, il produise un rock entraînant avec des guitares accrocheuses et des basses dansantes. Vous aviez déjà pu les découvrir grâce à leur excellent premier EP Golden Sea.
Plutôt court, Imaginary Future s’écoute d’une traite. On trouve toujours autant de fougue et d’émotions dans les chansons. On retient facilement les refrains et on tape du pied sans relâche sur ces minis tubes estivaux (un peu retard).
Avec moins de naïveté et plus de créativité que The Drums, French Films méritent d’être connus.

No need to come from California to make Surf rock. The band French Films has understood it really well and shows it to us with their first album Imaginary Future, available since today.
As their name indicates it, Antti, Joni, Santtu, Mikael & Johannes are from Finland, but it doesn’t change anything, they produce a highly stimulating rock with catchy guitars and dancing basses. You could have discovered them with their first EP Golden Sea, a very nice try.
Imaginary Future is quite short and you can easily listen to the album in one go. Their songs are still full of emotions even if there is maybe a stronger pop side with more keyboards. It’s easy to remember lyrics, and to shake your head, on theses mini summer hits (too late maybe).
With less naivety and more noise and creativity than The Drums, French Films deserve to be known.
