Belka Records - Russian Tour 5

 

The French Moscow based label published at the end of October a new release. The compilation Russian Tour 5 gather 12 bands from post Soviet countries (Ukraine, Estonia, Russia and Belarus). From dream pop to post punk, it is a nice introduction to Russian indie rock as almost all of the tracks are with Russian lyrics.

Just one interesting exception : Plaisir Douteux and the song L'apathie, la quarantine. An hypnotic ballade inn French from this one man project based in Kiev. 

Talking about France, our favorite track may be Paris by Minimarket. An indie rock anthem for a new Belarusian generation ?

Man of Moon - The Road

Man of Moon est un duo prometteur. Ils débarquent d'Edimbourg, où, apparemment, ils commencent à être bien connu dans le milieu et proposent un rock percutant.

Leur premier 7" sort le 17 Juillet via Melodic Records. Écouter ci-dessous le catchy The Road.

Man of Moon is a promising duo. They land from Edinburgh, where apparently they started to be well known in the industry and propose a punchy rock.

Misun - Penny

Le prolifique trio de Washington est de retour ! Après avoir été sélectionné sur la compil Kistuné avec Eli Eli, Misun nous dévoile Penny, une piste qui ne déroge pas à la règle: jeu de guitare précis et acéré, et une voix qui prend aux tripes... On attend avec impatience la sortie de Supertition, leur album prévu pour le 11 novembre!

The prolific trio from Washington is back! After being selected for the Kitsune compilation with Eli Eli, Misun reveals Penny, a track that does not break rules:  precise and sharp guitar and a voice which takes guts... Album Supertition is scheduled November 11 !

 

The Family Rain - You Should Be Glad You've Got a Man

"Tu devrais être heureux tu as un homme". Oui, ça sonne moins bien en français mais on s'en fout ! Les trois frangins de Bath prépare un EP pour la fin juillet, Hunger Sauce. On a déjà le premier titre, c’est assez direct et court. On aime bien le rock simple de The Family Rain. Et puis, c’est si rare de voir le batteur au centre d’un clip...

If you translate it in French, the title does not sound so great, but it doesn’t matter. The Bath brothers prepare a new EP for the end of July, Hunger Sauce. We already have the first track, it’s short and direct. Simple good rock music. And it is so rare to see the drummer in the center of a clip.

Holy Wave - Relax

Coup de cœur pour le dernier album de Holy Wave. En écoutant le dernier opus des américains, je suis parti planer très haut au-dessus des nuages. Cette voix lointaine qui semble être comme un souffle divin, ce petit piano psychédélique, ces guitares west coast, ce petit tambourin 60's, un pure bonheur. Un vrai tourbillon acide et rock & roll. Le nom de ce merveilleux album : Relax.

Cela m'a donné envie de réécouter Rain Parade, au moins aussi bon et c’était il y a 30 ans.

Big crush for the latest album of Holy Wave. I listened to the last opus of the Americans and I went hovering high above the clouds. The faraway voice that seems to be like a divine breath, this little psychedelic piano, The west coast guitars, this small 60's tambourine, a pure happiness. An acid and rock & roll whirlwind. The name of this wonderful album: Relax.

And then I have listened again to Rain Parade, at least as good and it was 30 years.

Franz Ferdinand - Love illumination

Love illumination sera certainement un des tubes rock de l’été. Le premier extrait du nouvel album de Franz Ferdinand a déjà engrangé un nombre impressionnant de vue sur youtube pour son clip assez 80’s, et ce n’est pas près de s’arrêter. Le nouvel opus sera dispo dans un mois et pas besoin de vous dire qu’il est très attendu !

Cela faisait longtemps que l’on attendait leur retour, et on est pas déçu. Des riffs qui font mouche, des refrains qui restent en têtes, les écossais n’ont pas perdu la main !

Mieux ou moins bien que le dernier Bloc party ? Le choix est vite fait !

Love illumination is certainly will certainly be one of the rock summer hits. The first single from Franz Ferdinand new album has already garnered an impressive number of views on youtube for the 80's video clip, and it's not going to stop. The new album will be available in one month, no need to say that it is highly anticipated!

Their return was expected, and we are not disappointed. Guitars riffs are back, refrains remain in your head, the Scottish band has not lost its touch!

Better or worse than the last Bloc Party? Easy choice!

Ezekiel - Death Grin

Après le superbe "Life Begins At Night EP" et sa ré-édition contenant d’ingénieuses relectures par d'autres producteurs, EZEKIEL est déjà de retour et annonce un nouvel EP via une nouvelle vidéo pour un titre extrait de ce dernier. "Death Grin" est un joyaux indescriptible entre trap music et hard rock avec toujours des mélodies bien dark qui créent un univers unique. La vidéo est à la fois épique et drôle et c'est donc extrait de "Twilight Of The Dogs" à paraitre bientôt (pas de date précise) chez Moveltraxx, et comme une bonne nouvelle n'arrive jamais seule, ce titre est en téléchargement gratuit pendant un court laps de temps sur le SoundCloud de l’artiste.

After the acclaimed "Life Begins At Night EP" and the remix EP which featured amazing reworks, EZEKIEL is already back and announce a new EP with a brand new video for a tune extract from "Twilight Of The Dogs" (yeah, that's the name of the EP). "Death Grin" is a dope jewel between trap and metal with melodies from the dark that create a unique style. The video is epic and funny at the same time and the whole release will be available soon on Moveltraxx. Good news, the tune is available for free download for a limited time on EZEKIEL's SoundCloud.

Frustration - Uncivilized

Parfois, on a juste enfin d'oublier une sale journée, de balancer sa tête d'avant en arrière à s'en faire péter les cervicales sur de bons riffs post-punk. Avec les français de Frustration (ça ne s'invente pas) on a exactement ce dont on a besoin pour se défouler un bon coup.

Ok, on avoue que leur 2e album Uncivilized est vraiment à réserver aux vrais fan de Cold Wave bien sale, bien dark. Mais il y a une ou deux chansons qui nous renvoient l'energie d'un Ian Curtis, les riffs mordants des grandes années de Wire.

On en a juste besoin parfois...

Sometimes the only stuff you are looking for is to swing frenetically your head back and forth listening to good old post punk riffs. if it's the case now, the French band Frustration is literally made for you 

Well, a large part of their second album, Uncivilized, is pretty dark and is clearly made for real Cold Wave lovers. Moreover, a few songs remind us the brilliant voice of Robert Smith,  Ian Curtis' Energy or the pushy riffs of Wire.

That's the only thing we need, sometimes...

Satellite Stories - Phrases To Break The Ice

En 2012, il y a eu aussi un groupe qui a littéralement explosé: Satellite Stories. Ces quatre garçons de Finlande nous distille une jolie pop acidulée, et même très rythmique. Dès la première écoute, on retrouve une forte influence Two Door Cinema Club ainsi que Pheonix et ils ne s'en cachent pas. Les Finlandais nous expliquent qu'ils sont conscient de ne pas avoir inventé la poudre à canon, mais leur but premier est de procurer du plaisir et divertir le public. Une simplicité qui se fait rare.

Avec Phrases To Break The Ice, on se laisse rapidement emballer par les riffs endiablés. Les guitares sont saturées à souhait, le duo bass / batterie vous font sauter sur place. C'est le genre de groupe qu'on a hâte de découvrir sur scène pour voir ce qu'ils ont dans le ventre.

L'année 2013 commence fort pour eux: après avoir été à l'affiche du festival Eurosonic en janvier, Satellite Stories sera en tournée sur les quatre continents, et un single est prévu pour la mi février. On vous en reparlera!

In 2012, there was also a band that has exploded: Satellite Stories. These four boys from Finland, distill us a nice tart pop, and very rhythmic. Upon first listen, there is a strong influence Two Door Cinema Club and Pheonix and they do not hide. Finns say they are aware of not having invented gunpowder, but their primary purpose is to provide fun and entertain audiences. A simplicity which is uncommon.

With Phrases To Break The Ice, we quickly packed leaves by frenzied riffs. Guitars are saturated, the bass / drums duo makes you jump up. This is the kind of band we wait to see on stage to see what they have in the belly.

The year 2013 started strong for them: after the festival poster Eurosonic in January, Satellite Stories will be touring across the four continents, and a single is scheduled for mid February. We'll talk about!

Aline - Regarde le Ciel

Ca faisait longtemps qu'on avait pas été aussi confiants sur l'avenir d'un groupe français. Pour Aline, aucun doute, impossible de ne pas taper des mains en cadence un sourire béat sur le visage tellement leur musique est pleine de quiétude et d'énergie positive... une vraie bombe. Les inrocks ne s'y étaient pas trompés en couronnant le groupe sous son ancien nom, Young Michelin, au concours CQFD 2010.

On pourrait se dire que c'est encore un groupe de Shoegaze/New Wave à la française comme il y a plusieurs en ce moment. Il y a un peu de ça, ils prennent part avec Yan Wagner, Lescop, la Femme, Granville à ce renouveau Romanitco-New-Wave-80's particulièrement enthousiasmant. Mais si leur son est tintés des Smiths, de Daho et que le chanteur rappelle vraiment Indochine, le groupe fait une synthèse heureuse de leurs influences et produisent de la "petite chanson sympa" qu'on aime bien écouter allongé sur son lit.

Sortie le 7 Janvier 2013, dommage, un peu tard pour Noël... l'écoute en ligne est dispo dès aujourd'hui (source: Next)

It has been a long time since we haven't been so confident concerning a French band. There is no doubt for Aline. It is literally impossible to listen to there music, that is full of positive energy and happiness, without intuitively clapping  hands and having a naive smile on our face... This album is a real bomb. French magazine "Les Inrocks" were definitely right when they elected them best band at the CQFD contest in 2010.

People could think it is another French Shoegaze/ New Wave band like there ar plenty of them currently. It is quite true. With Yan Wagner, Lescop, La Femme, Granville and others, they participate to the Romantic-Modern-80's renewal and it is a great piece of news! Even is it sounds like the Smiths, Etienne Daho and that the singer reminds us Indochine, they generate the kind of "nice song" we love to listen to lying on our bed

Oil Boom - Gold Yeller

Comme on aime bien faire de la pub pour des groupes nouveaux et inconnus (ou pas encore célèbres), on vous présente aujourd’hui Oil Boom. Pour résumer, ils sont trois, ils sont de Dallas et ils jouent un rock tinté d’influences garage, un rock qui a une odeur de whisky et de cigarette. 

Leur EP, Gold Yeller est vraiment sympa. C’est assez classique mais c’est très bien construit, les six morceaux sont six singles potentiels. Bon ok, préférence pour This Girl's Man !

As we like to promote new and not famous (not yet) rock band, we would like to present Oil Boom. To sum up, it is three guys from Dallas, playing a strong rock with garage influences. 

Their EP, Gold Yeller is composed of six potential singles. Classic but really well built! Ok, let's say that our favorite one is This Girl's Man ! And you ?

The Pharmacy - Stoned and Alone

Stoned and Alone, le troisième album de The Pharmacy sent le whisky, la poussière et la sueur. Le whisky de ses cowboys musiciens, la poussière des nombreuses routes qu’ils arpentent lors de leurs tournées, et la sueur de leurs concerts plus qu’animés ! 

Le son du trio est garage et psychédélique, un rock rocailleux que quelques claviers 60’s accompagnent. Néanmoins, l’album comporte de nombreuses ballades catchy comme la délicate chanson Your Eyes. Cela peut faire pense aux français de All Cannibals.

Stoned and Alone, the third album of The Pharmacy smells whisky, dust and sweat. The whisky of these musician cowboys, the dust of many roads on which they walked during tours, and the sweat of their intense shows. 

The sound of the American trio is garage and psychedelic, a strong rock with some nice 60’s keyboards. Nevertheless, the album includes some catchy ballade (Your eyes for exemple).

British India - I Can Make You Love Me

On découvre le groupe australien British India avec la nouvelle chanson I Can Make You Love Me. En fait ce quatuor originaire de Melbourne n’est pas nouveau puisque ce titre est le premier single de leur quatrième album prévu pour la fin de l’année.

Méconnu en France, ils semblent être assez populaires dans leur pays. Ce morceau peut expliquer pourquoi. Ils produisent un rock efficace avec des paroles sensibles qui parleront à certains de vous. Une chanson qui explose et qui rappelle un autre groupe du même pays, The Vines.

We discover the Australian band British India with their new song I Can Make You Love Me. Indeed, this quartet from Melbourne is not new; this track is the first single of their forthcoming LP, their fourth album.

Not really famous in France, they seem to be quite popular in their country. By listening to their music, you can guess why. They produce an efficient rock with touchy lyrics for teenagers or young adults. A song that explodes and that remind us another band from the same country, The Vines.

Andrew, Nathan et Brandon sont trois amis d’Atlanta, mais ils forment aussi The King in Yellow.

Le jeune trio a sorti un nouvel Ep, Good / / Ghosts le mois dernier avec quelques morceaux pas trop mal. Leur son n’est pas révolutionnaire, un rock classique mais c'est efficace. La rythmique de la batterie est assez dansante et agréable, la voix rageuse. Donnons-leur une chance!

The band released a new Ep last month, Good / / Ghosts with some nice rock tracks. Their sound is classic but efficient. The dancing drum part is probably the best.

Give them a chance guys!

Evil Eyes - Over My Shoulder

Un peu de légèreté avec Evil Eyes, un duo originaire de San Francisco. Greg Mabry et Joe Frabotta sortent ce moi-ci un petit vinyle bien sympa. Deux pistes dream pop rafraîchissante: Over My Shoulder et Playing With Matches. C'est plutôt difficile de dire quel morceau on préfère!

A little of airiness with Evil Eyes, a 2-piece band from San Francisco. Greg Mabry & Joe Frabotta release this month a nice and refreshing 7” vinyl with two dream pop tracks: Over My Shoulder and Playing With Matches. Hard to say which song is the best one.
