Paperfangs - Past Perfect

C’est dimanche après midi, vous avez du mal à sortir la tête de l’oreiller et vous vous demandez quel petit son pourra vous aider à émerger. Ne cherchez plus, vocododo a la solution : Paperfangs. Cette formation originaire de Finlande se présente simplement comme "un frère, une sœur et un ami".

Leur musique est douce, elle vous berce dans votre demi-sommeil. Les synthés sont fluides, les quelques petites notes de guitare et la batterie entrainante vous guident dans vos rêves et on se retrouve projeté dans un monde coloré.

On écoute Past Perfect, leur premier album sorti il y a quelques jours sur Soliti.

It's Sunday afternoon, you're struggling to remove the head from the pillow and you wonder which small sound can help you to emerge. Look no further, vocododo have the solution: Paperfangs. This training comes from Finland arise them simply as "a brother, a sister and a friend".

Their music is soft, it lulls you in your slumber. Synths are fluid, the few catchy guitar notes and drums guide you in your dreams and you find yourself thrown into a colorful world.

Indian Trails - Brighter Night

Ok, on était un peu pris par le temps à la fin de l’année dernière, mais on se rattrape aujourd’hui avec Indian Trails et leur excellent premier EP. Le groupe a été formé en 2011 par Nico Henry (guitare) et Antti Mikael (batterie). Ils ont vite été rejoints par 3 autres musiciens, quelques mois seulement avant la sortie de Brighter Night !

La formation finlandaise en est donc encore à ses balbutiements, ce qui ne les empêche pas de nous livrer un EP abouti. L’indie rock domine largement cet opus, mais sans son côté obscur. Ces quatre titres donnent l’impression que le groupe joue au milieu d’un champ, baigné par les rayons du soleil.

Les guitares sont légères, suivant instinctivement la basse, qui assure le show épaulé par la batterie. La voix de Jouni et les quelques notes de synthé finissent de poser le décor pour un groupe qui donne l’impression d’être déjà bien rodé !

Ok, we were a little pressed for time at the end of last year, but we are catching up today with Indian Trails and their excellent debut EP. The Band was formed in 2011 by Nico Henry (guitar) and Antti Mikael (drums). They were soon joined by three other musicians, only a few months before the release of Brighter Night !

Finnish are still in their infancy, but that did not prevent deliver us a successful EP. The indie rock dominates this album, but without its dark side. These four tracks give the impression that the band plays in the middle of a field, bathed in sunlight.

The guitars are light, instinctively following the bass, which ensures the show supported by the drums. Jouni's voice and some synth notes end up asking the decor for a band that gives the impression of being tried and tested ! 

Flash Arnold - This Is It EP

Le très perfectionniste Flash Arnold surgit des années 80 et nous envoie This Is It. Sorti sur Aphasia Records, on se retrouve avec un EP disco, agrémenté de beats massif qui poignardent à merveille les synthés. La machine à remonter le temps se met alors en marche, projeté avec des pistes par moment envoutante (Shadow Runner) et d’autre qui vous plongent dans une scène musclée d’un film de l’époque (This Is It).

Bref, on retrouve cette vision retro futuriste qui nous plaît tant !

The perfectionist Flash Arnold arises from 80s and sends us This Is It. Released on Aphasia Records, we are left with a disco EP, adorned with massive beats which pefectly stab synths. The machine back in time then starts running, designed with captivating tracks by moment (Shadow Runner) and another that immerse you in a muscled film scene from the 80s  (This Is It).

In short, we find this retro futuristic vision that we like so much!

Satellite Stories - Phrases To Break The Ice

En 2012, il y a eu aussi un groupe qui a littéralement explosé: Satellite Stories. Ces quatre garçons de Finlande nous distille une jolie pop acidulée, et même très rythmique. Dès la première écoute, on retrouve une forte influence Two Door Cinema Club ainsi que Pheonix et ils ne s'en cachent pas. Les Finlandais nous expliquent qu'ils sont conscient de ne pas avoir inventé la poudre à canon, mais leur but premier est de procurer du plaisir et divertir le public. Une simplicité qui se fait rare.

Avec Phrases To Break The Ice, on se laisse rapidement emballer par les riffs endiablés. Les guitares sont saturées à souhait, le duo bass / batterie vous font sauter sur place. C'est le genre de groupe qu'on a hâte de découvrir sur scène pour voir ce qu'ils ont dans le ventre.

L'année 2013 commence fort pour eux: après avoir été à l'affiche du festival Eurosonic en janvier, Satellite Stories sera en tournée sur les quatre continents, et un single est prévu pour la mi février. On vous en reparlera!

In 2012, there was also a band that has exploded: Satellite Stories. These four boys from Finland, distill us a nice tart pop, and very rhythmic. Upon first listen, there is a strong influence Two Door Cinema Club and Pheonix and they do not hide. Finns say they are aware of not having invented gunpowder, but their primary purpose is to provide fun and entertain audiences. A simplicity which is uncommon.

With Phrases To Break The Ice, we quickly packed leaves by frenzied riffs. Guitars are saturated, the bass / drums duo makes you jump up. This is the kind of band we wait to see on stage to see what they have in the belly.

The year 2013 started strong for them: after the festival poster Eurosonic in January, Satellite Stories will be touring across the four continents, and a single is scheduled for mid February. We'll talk about!
