One of the best American dream pop bands has kindly prepared a playlist for us. Work Drugs has gathered some classical and unforgettable tracks. With David Bowie, Supertramp, Fleetwood Mac or Serge Gainsbourg (Yeah, a French artist!), this selection essential may give you an idea about the band’s musical influences. Culture Club - Karma Chameleon: what a track!  sure we all know it, but this one sonically sounds especially great!!! something to strive for

Smashing Pumpkins - Mayonaise: an impactful track from our formative years

Paul Simon - You can Call me Al: We love paul simon and this record was always in high rotation when we took a road trip.

Serge Gainsbourg - Melody: this guy just gave off such a cool aura, and this style is something we have tried to emulate from time to time

Marcia Griffiths - Naturally: Love Love Love this one recently, a great early dub track

Bruce Springsteen - Jungleland: what can i say, this is so cinematic. It is an entire album in one song.  It is just such a great track, that brings about lots of themes.

Steve Winwood - Higher Love: we love winwood and this 80's era winwood track sounds great on a big system, and we love the layered production and the harmonies.

Bee Gees - Night on Broadway: we love the bee gees and this mid 70's era track shows a band in transition, and we love when artists show growth, and its something we strive for

This Lizzy - Cowboy Song: Buy this album!!! Jailbreak is so great!!!

Derek and the Dominos - Bell Bottom Blues: the interplay is great, and is something we think about when arranging our material for a live show

Queen - Don't Stop Me Now - Such a high energy track: I think most of our tunes are high energy - so this was a natural fit

Grandaddy - Summer Here Kids - Such a wordsmith: lyrically we love a vast majority of the grandaddy catalog. 

Roy Orbison - Oh Pretty Woman: this song is so well written, such a timeless masterpiece.  

The Band - Jawbone: Sure other tracks in the band's catalog get more airplay, but damn! do we love this track.  

Al Stewart - Year of the Cat: So many solos , piano, guitar, synth, sax, and such a cool piano riff.  We do that sometimes.

Fleetwood Mac - Dreams: Such a great song that never goes to the one chord - any musical geeks will now what we mean

Tonto's Expanding Head Band: Riversong - light a candle - turn out the lights and get weird

Supertramp - Logical Song: this is such a great record, great melodies and production!!!

Beach Boys - Surfer Girl: we love the beach boys, and this classic still sounds amazing even though its 50 years old.

Big Star - The Ballad of El Goodo: we love big star and recently got back into the band - after watching that recent Rock doc on netflix.

T. Rex - Mambo Sun: So Cool!!!

David Bowie - Young Americans: we love philly and this is a great philly record by a great artisit!!! recorded at sigma

The Velvet Underground - I'll Be Your Mirror: so sad to hear of lou's passing. he will live on with his phenomenal creative output

Steely Dan - Glamour Profession: Gaucho is such an underrated record and the lyrics of this track are soooooo clever.  something we try to do ourselves.

Journey - Lights: this song sounds amazing turned up loud!!!

Work Drugs - Mavericks

Une ambiance tropicale plane sur ce troisième opus de Thomas Crystal et Benjamin Louisiana alias Work Drugs. Mavericks est un album puissant, où l’espace est rempli sans cesse par des synthés omniprésents, mais sans jamais être saturé. Les guitares apportent une touche de fantaisie aux mélodies, avec une voix rêveuse à laquelle on accroche rapidement.

Ces douze titres ont été écrits sur la route, lors d’un voyage des deux compères le long de la côte californienne. On retrouve vite un air surf pop, sans renier l’ambiance des productions précédentes.

En bonus, on découvre le clip de Mavericks, dernière piste de ce voyage en bord de mer.

A tropical feel hovers over this third installment of Thomas Crystal and Benjamin aka WorkDrugs. Mavericks is a powerful album, where the space is filled constantly by omnipresent synths, but never saturated. Guitars bring a touch of whimsy to melodies, with a dreamy voice which we are quickly hooked.

These twelve tracks were written on the road during a road trip they took along the California coast. We quickly found an air of surf pop, without denying the atmosphere of previous productions.

As a bonus, we discover Mavericks’ clip, the last track of this trip to the seaside.

It has become a habit, each month, the Philadelphia based band Work Drugs puts on line a new track. And as usual, it’s a wave of freshness, a sip of smoothness. Lisbon Teeth is a catchy dream pop single. 

The spirit of the song is perfectly sum up here: “Drunken nights in Paris back alleys, afternoons on the beautiful beaches of Portugal, early evening ciders on the banks of the Thames. The girls names we couldn't pronounce... and the faces we couldn't forget.” When is the next holiday?

Ca devient une habitude, chaque mois le groupe originaire de Philadelphie, Work Drugs nous offre un nouveau titre. Et comme à chaque fois, c’est une vague de fraicheur, une gorgée de douceur. Lisbon Teeth est un single à la fois tendre et accrocheur. 

L’esprit de la chanson est très bien résumé ici: « Des nuits d’ivresse dans les ruelles de Paris, des après-midis sur les magnifiques plages du Portugal, des débuts de soirées au cidre sur les bords de la Tamise. Le nom des filles que l’on ne pouvait prononcer… et ces visages que l’on ne peut oublier » C’est pour quand les prochaines vacances ?

Régulièrement, Work Drugs nous offre une nouvelle piste. C’est toujours la même recette, mais c’est toujours aussi plaisant. 

C’est donc encore un petit bain de soleil. License To Drive n’est peut être pas la meilleur chanson du groupe mais reste cependant une berceuse agréable et reposante. De la dream pop ensoleillé comme on l’aime.

Regularly, Work Drugs offer us a new track. It is always the same recipe but it is always pleasant. 

So, we have another sunbath with a License To Drive. Maybe not the best track of the band, but it remains a peaceful and relaxing lullaby. The kind of dream pop we like.

Le groupe Work Drugs vient de signer aujourd’hui son nouveau titre, Catalina Wine Mixer. Difficile de faire plus "été, plage, vacances" que cette apaisante Dream Pop/Chillwave, ou comme aime à le dire le groupe " Smooth-fi". On pourrait s’attendre à une berceuse un peu trop aérienne mais non, le duo basse/batterie est bien là pour nous aider à rester éveillé et cheveux aux vents, regarder les nuages passés …

Le duo originaire de Philadelphie a l’habitude de régulièrement sortir des titres sans album ou EP en vue, et toujours en libre téléchargement. Le mois dernier, on avait déjà pu entendre Ice Wharf, tout aussi harmonieux et planant. Bronzez bien!

The Band Work Drugs has signed today its new song, Catalina Wine Mixer. It’s Hard to be more "summer, beach, holidays" than this soothing Dream Pop/Chillwave or as the band like to say "Smooth-fi". One might expect a lullaby a little bit too aerial, but no, the duo bass/drums is there to help us to stay awake and hair in the wind, to watch the clouds passed...

The duo from Philadelphia has the habit of regularly release new track without any album or EP in the offing, and it’s always free download. Last month we could have already heard Ice Wharf, just as smooth and gliding. Tan well!
