All Cannibals - Black Shark Shake-A-Lake

Apres Kim Novak, All Cannibals nous montre que la Normandie (ou plutôt Caen) est une terre fertile pour les groupes rock. Le mois dernier, Mathieu, Emmanuel et Tiphaine sortaient leur premier opus, Black Shark Shake-A-Lake.

Avec ce genre de nom, on pourrait croire que All Cannibals est un groupe de death metal. Heureusement non ! Enregistré dans une chapelle, leur premier album est un concentré de garage, de rock, et de surf rock. Débordant d’énergie, Black Shark Shake-A-Lake pourraient vous rappeler The Pixies, The Strokes ou encore des petites pépites underground des années 60 (The Zipps, Wimple Winch…)

N’hésitez pas à jeter un coup d’œil aux clips de Joe et High On The Past. Petite préférence pour le dernier (on ne peut que aimer un clip où un mec porte un T-shirt des Ramones).

After Kim Novak, All Cannibals shows us that Normandy is a fertile ground for rock band. Last month, Mathieu, Emmanuel and Tiphaine were releasing their first opus, Black Shark Shake-A-Lake.

With this kind of name, you may think that All Cannibals is a death metal band. Hopefully no! Recorded in a chapel, their first album is a concentrated of garage, rock and surf music. Full of energy, Black Shark Shake-A-Lake may reminds you The Pixies, The Strokes and also little underground nuggets of the 60s (The Zipps, Wimple Winch…).

Don’t hesitate to have a look at the video clips made for Joe and High On The Past. Little preference for the last one (We can't dislike a clip where a guy is wearing a Ramones T-shirt).

Kim Novak - The Golden Mean

Une petite ballade rêveuse et appaisante au milieu de nulle part pour cette fin de semaine ça vous tente? C'est ce que promet Kim Novak avec The Golden Mean. Les Caennais qui sortent tout juste des transmusicales de Rennes se démènent pour nous offrir leur meilleure dream folk. Et il ne le font pas qu'à moitié avec un album 15 titres aux accents américains plus que consistent!

Au programme, coeurs surf rock Californiens, couplés à une basse languissante 60's irresistibles et à une guitare à la reverbération appaisante. Les normands savent s'y prendre pour nous transporter et nous émouvoir. Les clins d'oeil, subtiles, aux grandes icones du rock américains pleuvent pour  notre plus grand bonheur: il y a un peu de Elvis de Velvet Underground.

Bref, un album réussi défendu par un visuel vraiment pas mal foutu!

What about a dreamy walk in the middle of nowhere for the end of the week? That is what Kim Novak promise us with their last record, The Golden Mean. The guys from Caen are just back from the French Transmusicales and do whatever they can to deliver their best Dream Folk music. And they do it pretty well with a 15 track american style release that is more than solid!

The program they propose is quite rich: Californian surf rock vocals coupled with irresistible 60's bass and peaceful reverberated guitare. The French now how to transport and to move us. Subtle references to American standards such as the Velvet Underground or Elvis are present everywhere to make us happy.

In a word a nice album with a cool artwork!
