Dans chaque ville des Etat Unis on peut trouver des jeunes qui jouent de la musique avec leurs amis dans le garage, et en ce moment la mode est au shoegaze dream pop. Parmi tous ces groupes, on a été séduit par Suburban Living. 

Mené par Wesley Bunch, la bande de Norfolk (Virginie) prépare un EP pour 2012. Ils en donnent un premier aperçu avec une chanson plutôt sympa : Give Up. C’est jeune, c’est simple, et ça a du potentiel. Ils commencent tout juste, ils ont mis en ligne leurs deux premières chansons le mois dernier. In each part of the United States you can find people playing music with friends in the garage, and at the moment, the trend is to shoegaze dream pop music. Among all these new bands, we were seduced by Suburban Living. 

Lead by Wesley Bunch, the band from Norfolk (Virginia) is preparing an EP for 2012. They give a first preview of it with a nice new song: Give Up. It’s young, it’s simple, and it has potential. The Leisure Society propose un nouveau clip pour Dust On The Dancefloor, leur dernière chanson extraite d’Into The Murky Water, album sorti il y a quelques mois déjà. 

The Leisure Society fait penser à Belle & Sebastian, version british. Leur son est plus folk d’habitude, avec des violons et un son qui vous donne l’impression que vous êtes en train de boire une bière dans un pub perdu au milieu de nulle part dans la campagne anglaise. Ici, avec Dust On The Dancefloor, c’est plus entrainant et explosif, mais il y a toujours la voix sensible de Nick Hemming, on a forcement de la sympathie pour eux.

The Leisure Society makes us think about Belle & Sebastian, a British version. Their sound is much more folk usually, with violins and a sound that gives the impression that you are drinking a beer in a dark pub, lost in the middle of nowhere. Here, in Dust On The Dancefloor, it’s more dynamic and explosive, but there is still the nice voice of Nick Hemming.

Chromatics - Kill For Love / Glass Candy - Warm in the Winter

Aujourd'hui deux groupes qui partagent le même label, Italians Do It Better, et surtout un membre en commun, Johnny Jewel. Ce dernier pense dur comme fer que l'Italo-Disco n'est pas mort et qu'il s'accorde à merveille avec le rock. En écoutant le musique de Chromatics et Glass Candy on veut bien le croire!

Chromatics a sortis sont début album en 2003 et s'est pas mal fait connaitre fin 2006 avec In The City. Leur son au début punk et lo-fi a peu a peu évolué vers un savant mélange de post-punk et d'Italo. Ils sortent début Janvier in nouvel album, Kill For Love dont la piste éponyme est le premier extrait. Le thème de la piste est assez commun mais la musique, rythmée et vaporeuse lui donne une vraie profondeur.

Glass Candy sonne plus électro, teinté de new wave, d'Italo et de Minimal Wave. Le duo a débuté en 1996 et a sorti un EP le mois dernier Warm In The Winter assez axé synth-pop.

Today, two bands from the same label, Italians Do It Better and that share a member: Johnny Jewel. This guy firmly believes that Italo-Disco is not dead and mixes well with rock. When we listen to Chromatics and Glass Candy it is not hard to believe!

Chromatics released their first LP in 2003 and has been particularly noticed at the end of 2006 with In The City. Their music was at the beginning punk and lo-fi and evolved to a smart mix of Italo and Post-Punk. They release a new record in early January, Kill for Love. The so-called song is the first extract of the album. The thematic is common but the music, rhythmic and vaporous, provides profundity.

Glass Candy sounds more electronic, with New wave, Italo and Minimal Wave samples. The duo started in 1996 and released an EP last month, Warm in The Winter which sounds Synth-pop.

Moscow Olympics - Keeping The Avenues Open

On ne pensait pas qu’un jour on vous parlerait d’un groupe originaire des Philippines. C’est chose faite aujourd’hui grâce à Moscow Olympics ! Rien à voir avec les russes, aucun rapport avec le sport, on parle ici d’Indie Pop. 

En 2008, ils sortent un premier mini-album intitulé Cut The World, ils font les premières parties des suédois de Radio Dept en Asie, et depuis pas grande chose, jusqu'à la semaine dernière. Moscow Olympics propose habituellement un rock assez animé avec quelques rythmes plus Post Punk. 

Ils reviennent avec une nouvelle version de Keeping The Avenues Open. Cette piste est peut être un peu décevante, un peu trop aérienne et mielleuse. Mais on pardonne facilement leur tendresse, et l’on prend juste cela comme une opportunité pour découvrir ou redécouvrir leurs anciens titres!

We didn't think that one day we would introduce you a band from Philippines. Done today, thanks to Moscow Olympics! Nothing about Russians, nothing about sports, it deals with Indie Pop. 

In 2008, they released a first mini-album entitled Cut The World, they toured in Asia with the Swedish band Radio Dept, and since that, almost nothing until last week. Moscow Olympics usually plays a lively rock with some Post Punk rhythm. 

They come back with a new version of keeping The Avenues Open. This new track is maybe a little bit disappointing, maybe too aerial, and too smooth. But we easily forgive their tenderness here and take it as an opportunity to discover or rediscover them!

La Femme - Paris 2012



Décidément, on n’a pas fini avec eux! Après Sur la Planche qui a fait un tabac en décembre, La Femme, remet le couvert avec un nouveau single qui sort aujourd'hui, Paris 2012. Attention, ne pas confondre avec une campagne douteuse pour les jeux Olympiques. Les jeunes français (à peine 18 ans) se jouent de l'apocalypse, une piste traitant de la fin du monde annoncée l'année prochaine, l'autre de la catastrophe de Tchernobyl.

Les deux titres sont assez différents. Dans Paris 2012 on retrouve la fougue qui caractérise bien le groupe. Le rythme est rapide et entêtant... Ce qu'on avait connu avec la Planche. From Tchernobyl With Love est plus posé. Un texte mélancolique est parlé sur une musique d'ambiance. Le titre évoque un peu certaines faces B  Cold Wave.

Ce qu'on aime chez la Femme c'est moins la mélodie que le son et l'ambiance si particuliers... des samples Cold Wave revisités, redynamisés par ceux qui n'ont pas connu cette époque et en ont un regard totalement neuf.

They are definitely not outdated! After la Planche released in December that has been praised, La Femme did it again with a brand new single out today: Paris 2012. No, don't think it is the name of a dubious ad campaign for the Olympics. The young French guys (around 18) deal with the Apocalypse with one song about the end of the world next year and the other one about the Chernobyl disaster.

The two songs are quite different. Paris 2012 is a demonstration of the Characteristic ardor of the band: the rhythmic is quick and insistent... Just like with Sur La Planche. From Tchernobyl with Love is quieter. A melancholic text is spoken on a background music. The track sounds like some Cold Wave B-sides.

The thing we enjoy about la Femme's music is not particularly their melodies but rather that unique sound and ambiance... Dynamic and revisited New Wave samples from people that didn't lived the 80's and can make them modern.

Class Actress - Rapprocher

Class Actress a fait beaucoup parler sur le web ces derniers temps, dans 2 jours, Le premier LP de la Diva, Rapprocher, sort officiellement. Elizabeth Harper de son vrai nom, originaire de Brooklyn, surf sur la vague nostalgique 80's qui sévit actuellement autant au niveau de son esthétique que des sonorités.

Ce qu'on peut dire c'est que c’est bien fait. Les lignes de basse post-punk et les synthés rétros se marient bien avec la voix de la chanteuse. Des références explicites sont faites entre autres à The Human League, Depeche Mode. Certains titres peuvent vous trotter dans la tête un bon moment comme All The Saint ou Keep You.

Au delà de ça, la musique est peut-être un peu galvaudée... On a le sentiment que tout est fait pour évoquer les années 80 au point de faire encore plus New Wave que certains tubes de l'époque... pas vraiment de révolution musicale donc et c'est bien dommage car il y a du potentiel!

We have talked a lot about Class Actress recently on the Web. In 2 days the first LP of the Diva, Rapprocher, well be out. Elizabeth Harper, her real name, is from Brooklyn and surfs on the 80's nostalgic wave that currently strikes for her music as well as for her aesthetic.

What we can say is that she does it well. The post-punk bass lines and retro synthesizers mix well with the nice voice of the singer. There are some obvious references to famous New Wave bands like The Human League and Depeche Mode. Some tracks can stay in your mind for a long time such as All the Saint or Keep You.

Beyond that, the music is a bit hackneyed... We have the feeling that everything is done to stick to the 80's and actually, it sounds even more New Wave that some songs of the period... There is no huge musical revolution here and this is a shame considering the potential of the girl!

Go Cozy - Silverlining

On poursuit notre série sur les petits groupes indie avec Go Cozy. Le quartette basé dans le Maryland, a tout juste dévoilé ses quatre premières chansons, avant un premier EP attendu pour cet automne: Moonroof.

C’est toujours agréable de découvrir ce genre de groupe qui joue avant tout pour se faire plaisir. Comme The Gytters (on vous les présentait il y a peu), leurs chansons séduisent dès la première écoute. Leur Style est un peu plus shoegaze et mélancolique comme dans le rêveur Sage Along My Life. Mais notre chanson préférée reste Fruit Flies, plutôt punchy !

We continue our series of little underground indie rock band with Go Cozy. The foursome based in Maryland, just released four tracks before their first EP Moonroof expected for this fall. 

It’s always a pleasure to discover cozy unknown tracks from band which are playing for fun. As The Gytters (we presented them a few days ago here), their songs seduce at the first listening. Their style is a little bit more shoegaze and melancholic as the dreamy Sage Along My Life. But our favorite track remains Fruit Flies, a punchy one!

I Heart Sharks - Neuzeit

Oui, c'était un scandale qu'il n'y ait pas encore de groupe de Berlin sur le Blog. Injustice réparée! I Heart Sharks est un groupe indie Anglo-Germanique à l'image de la ville en ce moment: Un peu anarchique, un peu garage mais terriblement indépendant et dynamique. Le groupe n'en est pas a son coup essaie puisqu'ils sévit depuis 2008 et a déjà tourné a vec Friendly Fire. 

Demain les Allemands sortent un maxi, Neuzeit. La piste du même nom fait un peu penser à l'age d'or du Post Punk quand Wire nous parlait de son Heartbeat ou que les Gangs of Four faisait danser dans les chaumières. Le son est incisif. Ce qui marque surtout c'est le refrain dans la langue de Goethe au millieu des complets en anglais ce qui le fait ressortir, lui donne une force, vraiment à la manière d'un hymne.

En tout cas, tout ça ne fait pas de mal aux oreilles!

 We confess, it was a scandal that no band from Berlin was represented on the Blog. Problem solved! I Heart Sharks is an indie Anglo-German band that is just like the city currently: a bit anarchist, a bit garage but terribly independent  and dynamic. This is not the first try for the German as they started in 2008 and toured with Friendly Fire.

Tomorrow I Heart Sharks is releasing a new Maxi, Neuzeit. The so-called track sounds a bit like the Post-Punk Golden age when Wire was talking about its Heartbeat and Gang of Four made people shake at home. The music is incisive. What is special is that German tune in the middle of English verses. It highlights it and makes it strong just like a kind of anthem.  

Anyway, not bad for the ears!

Ils n’ont pas fait le tour du monde ; ils n’ont pas vendu des millions de CDs, mais pas besoin de ça pour nous plaire, voici The Gytters. 

Un son frais en provenance de New York arrive à nos oreilles avec The Running of The Bulls, leur nouvelle chanson. Ecouter ce titre, c’est comme redécouvrir dans son grenier une vieille cassette de mystérieux groupes rock des années 80, c’est un trésor, parce que vous savez que vous n’êtes pas nombreux à les connaitre. C’est simple, c’est rêveur et nostalgique, mais surtout très efficace ! 

Créer il y a simplement quelque mois, The Gytters a déjà publié quelque chansons sur le net, en téléchargement gratuit. A chaque fois, il y a une bonne ligne de bass et une voix agréable, on attend donc maintenant l’EP !

A fresh sound is coming from New York City with The Running of The Bulls, their new song. Listen to this track is like rediscovering in the attic an old tape of mysterious rock bands from the 80s, it’s a treasure because you know that you are not a lot to know them. It’s simple, it’s dreamy, and it’s efficient! 

Founded a couple of month earlier, The Gytters has already published some free songs on internet. There is each time a nice bass line and good vocals, so now, we are waiting for their first EP!

Vous êtes nés dans les années 80? Petits vous aviez les yeux rivés sur la lune et rêviez de fusées, de voyages dans l'espace? Alors la musique de Flashworx devrait vous plaire! Les deux Genevois nous proposent une musique dans la plus pure tradition retro-futuriste.

Dans Futurisma, leur dernier EP, leur son, profond, nostalgique et intemporel nous transporte dans un autre dimension au delà du système solaire. Les synthés sont parfaitement maitrisés, tout tombe au poil: un bel hommage à l'italo-disco de nos grands frères.

On peut juste regretter que la musique des Suisses reste purement instrumentale, Des voix sur cette base pourraient vraiment rendre!

Are you born in the 80's? When you were younger were you staring at the moon and dreaming about rockets and trip outter space? Then Flashworx's music is made for you! The two guys from Geneva offer a typical retro-futurist sound.

In Futurisma, their second EP, their music is deep, intemporal, nostalgic and drives us to another dimension, beyond the solar system. Synthetizers are perfectly used, everything is well done: a beautyfull tribute to our big brothers' Italo Disco.

What we could be missing is maybe some voices that could sound great on that music!

Tycho - Dive

C’est notre coup de cœur du mois, Dive le deuxième album de Tycho est plus qu’une claque, c’est une violente caresse. 

Derrière le pseudonyme de Tycho, il y a Scott Hansen, un artiste, graphiste sous le nom d’Iso50 et bien sur un musicien et producteur. Pour son album, il a pris son temps pour mettre en avant la puissance de son son. Des synthétiseurs soufflent d’harmonieuses vagues de douceur, saupoudré de quelques délicats arpèges et effets, vous êtes téléporter dans une autre galaxie. Mais ne croyez pas que c’est calme trop pour vous, d’intenses et profondes basses accompagnant des beats puissant vous ferons rêver éveillé. 

Boards of Canada fait aussi le même genre de travail, mais Tycho est plus accessible. On vous a sélectionné deux tracks de cet album plutôt homogène. 

Prenez votre temps pour écouter Dive ; Cette baignade musicale ne vous laissera pas indifférent !

It’s our very favorite of the month, Dive, the second album of Tycho is more than a slap, it’s a violent caress. 

Behind Tycho there is Scott Hansen, a graphic artist under the name of Iso50 and of course a musician and a producer. For his album, he took his time to highlight the power of his sound. Synthesizers blow harmonious waves of softness sprinkled with some delicate arpeggios and effects, you are teleported in another galaxy! But don’t even think that it’s too smooth for you, intense and deep basses accompanying powerful beats will make you dream awake. 

Board of Canada has done in the past some similar works but Tycho is more accessible. We selected two tracks.

We Have Band - Visionary

On vient de l'apprendre, les We Have Band sortiront un album début 2012! Pour resituer, WHB c'est un trio de débrouillards londonniens amoureux de sampleurs, de xylos electros et de guitare electrique. Le groupe a déjà sorti en 2010 un LP plein d'énergie, WHB WHB, avec un certain nombre de titres devenus cultes (Divisive, You came out...).

L'album devrait s'appeler Visionary, c'est aussi le nom du premier extrait. La chanson contraste pas mal par rapport au rythme de l'album de 2010. Elle se veut plus melancholique, plus intimiste. On retrouve cependant ce qui caractérise le trio: des samples aeriens, kaleidoscopiques et les voies entrecroisées si caractéristiques.

A l'écoute de ce premier titre, leur musique semble avoir évolué. Il faudra attendre le début de l'année prochaine pour savoir jusqu'à quel point!

We've just heard about it, We Have Band will release a new record at the beginning of next year! Just to remind you: WHB is a do it yourself trio living in London that is in love with samplers, eletro xylophones and electric guitares. They have already released a full of energy LP in 2010, WHB WHB. Some of its tracks were particularly efficient and pleasant (Divisive, You came out...).

The name of the record will be Visionary, as their first single. It differs from the 2010 album's rythmic as it is more intimate and melancholic. Anyway, the main characteristics of the band are here: vaporous and kaledioscopic samples with this particular mix of voices.

Listening to the song, it is obvious that the band evolved. We will have to wait til next January to see how far!

Duchess Says - In a Fung Day T

Duchess Says est un peu un OVNI dans le monde la musique.

The Church of Budgerigars, basé à Montréal, a pour principal représentant ce groupe, Duchess Says qui fait la promotion de son obscure église par la musique. Ça sort de l'ordinaire...

Mais le plus important reste la musique: Explosif, c’est le premier mot qui vient à l’esprit quand on essaye de décrire leur second album In a Fung Day T sortie hier chez Alien8 Recordings ! Mais ces québécois ne sont pas des novices puisqu'ils ont déjà été remarqués lors de la sortie de leur premier opus Anthologie des 3 Perchoirs qui leur a permis de traverser l’Atlantique pour jouer leur Moog Rock sur les scènes européennes. 

L’énergie du Punk, combiné à des synthés vintages et des rythmes variés est exploité par ces musiciens fous pour créer une musique plutot Electro-Punk. Quelques pistes sont plus rock comme le très bon Gainsbourg. Une bonne production met en valeur l'ensemble des chansons. Nous espérons que vous ne serez pas choqués par cette avalanche de sons et cette violente expérience !

Duchess Says is a kind of UFO in the world of music. 

Based in Montreal, Duchess says promotes The Church of Budgerigars, by its music. Strange story, is'nt it? 

But the main thing remains music: Explosive, it’s the first word which came to describe their second album In a Fung Day T released at Alien8 Recordings yesterday! These Quebecers have already been noticed thanks to their first opus Anthologie des 3 Perchoirs which permitted them to cross the Atlantic Ocean and play their Moog Rock in Europe. 

The punk energy, combined with vintage keyboards and changing rhythms is exploited by these mad musicians to create an Electro-Punk music. Some tracks are more rock as for example the nice Gainsbourg. We hope you will not be shocked by this avalanche of crazy sounds and this violent experience!

Bon Voyage - Sorciers Des Aeroports

Peu ou pas d’information sur ce groupe : Bon Voyage, une bonne découverte. 

Ils sont trois, venant de Paris et semblent savoir comment utiliser leurs instruments. Les chansons de Bon Voyage racontent des histoires, ou plutôt vous invitent à créer votre propre scénario : Une femme, dans un aéroport, attendant… 

Un premier EP, Sorciers Des Aéroports vient de sortir. 

Plus ou moins rythmé, comme dans Trajectoires, ou atmosphérique, comme dans Commision Rogatoire, leur musique se déroule comme un BO d’un film des années 70 avec de bon synthétiseurs . Un brin mystérieux, ce projet, plein de personnalité et détonnant avec la musique actuelle risque de faire parler de lui. 

Bon voyage, ou comme le dit le groupe lui-même cчастливого пути !

They are three, coming from Paris and they seems to know how to use their instruments. Bon voyage’s songs tell stories, or invite us create your own story: A girl in an airport waiting for… 

A first EP, Sorciers Des Aéroports has just been released.

More or less rhythmical, as in Trajectoires, or atmospheric as in Commision Rogatoire, the music is emerging as a soundtrack of a 70s movie with nice synthesizers. A bit mysterious, this project, full of personality and different of what we are used to listen, may not stay unknown.

Les français s'en sortent plutot pas mal un synthé à la main en ce moment! Après Juveniles c'est au tour de T&K de nous faire écouter leur meilleure Synth-pop... Le groupe du nord sort le 24 Octobre leur début album chez On the Fruit Records, qui s'annonce particulièrement agréable au regard des quatres titres déjà sur la toile.

Le groupe qui se réclame d'influence anglaise (Metronomy, Monarchy...) nous offre un electro dynamique, une rythmique saccadée nous rappellant certains samples de Crystal Castles. On retrouve sur les titres un duo de voix parfois douces, profondes, parfois plus percutantes qui fait penser au Timbre de We are Enfants Terribles.

Le rythme des chansons et les sonorités naïves et enfantines nous donnent, en tout, cas la dose d'antidépresseurs qu'il nous fallait cet automne!

The French do it pretty well with a synthetizer currently! After Juveniles, this is now T&K that propose us their best Synth-pop... The Guys from the North of France release their first album on the 24th of October on On the Fruit Records. It looks pretty good if we listen to the 4 songs already on the Internet.

The Band that claims to have a English heritage (Metronomy, Monarchy...) offers us a dynamic Electro music with a jerky rythmic which remembers us some Crystal Castles' samples. There is also that voice duo that is sometimes soft and deep, sometimes punchy and that sounds a bit like We are Enfants Terribles.

Anyway, the rythmic of the songs and the naïve and infantile voices are what we need for the rough beginning of Fall.

Miami Horror sort un nouvel EP ? Presque !

Ils sont australiens, leur musique est résolument pop, enjouée et électronique, mais leur nom, c’est Cadillac. Dans deux semaines, le groupe dévoilera son premier Ep, mais on peut déjà découvrir une de leur chanson et son clip : Dreams.

Peut-on dire décrire leur son comme de la New Wave australienne ? Pourquoi pas, lorsque on réfléchit à la longue liste des groupes auxquelles on peut les comparer. Le genre de groupe qui propose une sorte de Synthepop qui vous emmène sans détour à la plage. Miami Horror, Pnau, Strange Talk, Cut Copy… Un vrai courant!

Miami Horror released a new EP? Almost!

They are Australian, their music is definitely electronic pop music but their name is Cadillac. In two weeks, this new band will reveal their first EP, but you can already discover one song and its video clip: Dreams.

Can we definite their sound as Australian New Wave music? Maybe, if we compare them with the long list of bands which are playing this nice kind of Synthpop that takes you to the beach. Miami Horror, Pnau, Strange Talk, Cut Copy… A real stream!

Xeno & Oaklander ce sont des durs, des vrais amoureux de New Wave 80's et de synthés analogiques. Avant la sortie de leur prochain album, Sets & Lights  ils nous offrent un petit aperçu de ce que ça peut donner avec Open Walls.

Les porte-drapeau de Wierd records nous offrent ici comme à leur habitude une synth-pop froide, inquiétante. La voix vaporeuse de sirène de Liz Wendelbo se mèle harmonieusement au chant monotone et entêté de  Sean McBride dans une musique volontairement minimale. Tout ça est accompagné de sons rythmés et retros.

On vous reparlera de leur Album, en attendant allez jeter un coup d'oeil au clip d'un autre extrait de l'album, The Staircase, toujours aussi délicieusement angoissant!

Xeno & Oaklander are purists in the way they are real 80's New Wave and analogic synthetizer lovers. Before the release of their last record, Sets an Lights, They give us an idea of how it could sound like with Open Walls.

As they usually do, the Wierd Records' flagships offer us a cold and frightening Synth-pop. The vaporous and siren voice of Liz Wendelbo harmoniously mixes with the monotnous and stubborn song of Sean McBride with a voluntory minimal music with rythmic and retros sounds.

We will take latter about their record but in the meanwhile, you can have a look at another release of the record, The Staircase, that is still delicously scarying!

Dans La Tente - Did We Like It So Far or Have We Just Persevered?

Il y a quelques semaines, nous vous parlions de Silver Firs, un groupe suisse fort sympa, c’est maintenant le tour de leurs amis de Dans La Tente. Oui jeux de mots inatendu. 

Avec Did We Like It So Far or Have We Just Persevered?, leur premier album, les quatre garçons espèrent se faire connaitre en dehors des Alpes. Leur son est assez atypique. Il y a une esthétique touchante dans leur chanson qui nous ramène à l’époque où Mitterrand nous dirigeait, mais c’est aspect rétro est loin d’être ennuyeux pour autant. On peut facilement le voir dans le clip de As long as the heart keeps beating, réalisé l’année dernière. 

C’est peut être étrange, mais on ressent un certain pessimisme ou cynisme quand on entend la voix du chanteur et la texture des claviers, et cela se confirme en jetant un coup d’œil au nom du groupe et de l’album. Dans La Tente subis les influences des 80’s mais arrive malgré tout à apporter sa petite touche personnelle. Deux extraits ci-dessous.

Some weeks ago we were introducing to you Silver Firs, a pleasant Swiss band, this the turn now of their friends Dans La Tente. 

With Did We Like It So Far or Have We Just Persevered?, Their first album, the four guys hope to make themselves known out of Alps. Their sound is quite atypical. There is a soulful aesthetic in their song taking back to Thatcher’s time, but without being annoying. You can easily see it in the video clip made for As long as the heart keeps beating, last year. 

It’s maybe strange, but we can feel a kind of pessimism or cynicism when we hear the voice of the singer and the keyboard sound, and also when you have a look at the name of the album and of the band. So, Dans la Tente is of course influenced by the 80’s, but they try as much as possible to bring their own touch. Two extracts below:

Stephen Falken - Phantom Tracks

Valérie nous offre un joli présent aujourd’hui, en produisant le premier album de Stephen Falken, Phantom Tracks. Le label nantais, nous avais déjà permis au printemps dernier de découvrir le sombre deuxième album de Collège, Northern Council. 

Plus qu’un album, c’est en réalité une compilation de dix obscures titres que l’artiste a composés pour différents projets ou joués en live. Dans la même dynamique que ses amis du collectif Valérie, Stephen Falken propose une musique électronique hypnotique, empli d’influence 80’s et de sons analogiques mystérieux, une sorte de voyage dans le passé à travers le future. On ne vous dira pas que c'est très facile d’accès.

Nous vous invitons aussi à jeter un coup d’œil au site de Valérie si vous voulez découvrir d’autre artiste retro-futuriste du collectif ou non.

Valérie is offering us a very nice present today, the french label is producing Stephen Falken’s Phantom Tracks. Last spring they also permit us to discover College’s second Album, the dark Northern Council. 

More than an album, this is a compilation of ten obscure tracks that the artist composed for different projects or played lived. In the same dynamic as his friends from Valérie’s collective, Stephen Falken is playing a melodic and hypnotic electronic music, full of 80’s influences and analogical sounds, a kind of travel in the past towards the future. Of course it’s not very accessible. 

We invite you also to have a look at Valérie’s website if you want to discover other nice retro-futurist artist from the collective or not.

Craft Spells - Your Tomb

Craft Spells vient de sortir un nouveau clip pour Your Tomb, dernière chanson extraite de leur premier album, Idle Labor. 

En provenance de Seattle, le groupe a très bien compris comment mélanger la New Wave des années 80 et la Dream Pop modern. En exagérant un peu, on pourrait presque dire que si les gars de New Order jouaient encore comme il y a vingt ans, cela serait parfaitement le type d’album qu’il sortirait aujourd'hui. Craft Spells fait penser à Wild Nothing, il y a cette même voix lointaine qui nous berce, mais leur son se rapproche aussi d’autre groupe américain de Chillwave dont nous avons déjà parlé sur Vocododo.

Vous ne serez donc pas déçu par Idle Labor. Ecoutez From The Morning Heat pour voir... 

Ils ont aussi fait récemment un remix de Money pour The Drums, à découvrir.

A nice new video clip just came out for Your Tomb, a song extract from the debut LP of Craft Spells, Idle Labor. 

Coming from Seattle, the band uses perfectly the classic mix of 80’s New Wave and modern Dream Pop. Let’s say if New Order was still playing as twenty years ago, they would have probably released an album like that. Craft Spells are not far from other American bands as Wild Nothing (same kind of voice, no?) or other Chillwave band on which we already spoke on Vocododo.
